Photos Of The Japanese TH + A Raffle?! (Spoilers)

Post by GM »

SPOILER ALERT: This post has photos of the packaging of the Japanese version of Tomorrow's Harvest. If you are looking forward to the UK or USA releases, I don't recommend you look at the pictures, because I think the packaging is basically the same and it will spoil the fun of opening it for yourself!

My friend in the UK asked for photos of the JP version in case he wants me to buy him a copy, so I thought I would also post the photos here because some people will be interested. I am new to the forum, but I have enjoyed lurking here the past few months and thought this could pay back some of the love!

I bought the CD from Kobe Tower Records this morning, and they gave me a lot of free stuff.
First, they gave me the poster and a Warp Records magnet.
Then, they pulled out a raffle box! There were about 20 tickets inside. I won a postcard. I asked the girl what the other prizes were, and she said an LP! I asked what was the LP, but she wouldn't tell me (You probably know what I'm thinking, but I guess it will just be an LP copy of TH)!

I also picked up a small Warp Records Campaign booklet with features on all the artists with summer releases.

Unfortunately, my CD player doesn't allow me to search for pre-gap tracks, but there might be an older CD player at work that I can try out tomorrow. Will report back if there is anything, or if nobody else has found it first!

It was really exciting to go in first thing in the morning and pick it up and be surprised with a raffle! I didn't listen to the stream on Monday, so all I know is RFTD and the Detroit festival track. I am going to wait until sunset tonight and then blast it out of my stereo with a cool drink! It's a bit humid today and I have a nice ocean view where I can watch the boats... opposite from the desert I know, but still cool : )

If you have any questions about the JP release, let me know!

Why California?

The album cover is the Alameda Naval Station, there is a nice shot of Mt. Whitney, there was a listening party in the Mojave and the RFTD music video seemed to have a lot of filming there.

As a Californian, it's really cool, but why? BoC seems to have a great interest in the state all of a sudden.

I just got back from the Shibuya branch of Tower Records and was thinking about taking a few photos for the Twoism folks. Let's just say that your efforts far exceeded anything I was going to produce! Nice work.

Anyway, it was same deal for me with the bonus raffle - slightly surreal. As I was about to pick my ticket I spied a bubble wrapped LP-shaped object on the shelf behind the girl at the counter and my heart momentarily stopped - XXXXXX! So I felt a bit miffed when all I 'won' was a postcard. I think you're correct, though, that it'll just be copies of the regular LP - particularly if it's the same promotion all over Japan.

Anyway, I've just finished ripping some lossless audio files from the CD so best head off to do some listening!

Seems reasonable to me. California was mythical and mystical to me before I moved here. Now I've lived here almost 20 years and it is still mythical and mystical (the good and the bad).

Me too. If I got a poster I would have it framed. How many of those are they handing out, really?

that postcard of cd back artwork is proper, this time without the tracknames unlike its poster version, looks smart that.

i'd love a hi-res scan of that one or well just the postcard even better, i'd frame that one but not the others. if i could get all the text off it even better  print it massive and mural it to the studio wall, full to the edge! be class

Are there any photos of the vinyl edition online? I wonder if the 16 pages booklet is included... I certainly hope so.

It's good to hear they are doing this promotion in other stores too, meaning it probably is just a vinyl copy of TH. For a second I thought "Is this how they are getting rid of a Japanese copy of XXXXXX that no-one has picked up until now?" and was tempted to blow ¥40,000 buying 20 copies of the album and picking up ALL the raffle tickets. Ha ha ha!

I wonder if they spent some time in the desert near there and found inspiration? Or if it is just Neil Krug's influence? I wonder if they used him specifically because he is associated with the desert imagery that they wanted, or if they decided to work with him, and in that process it was he who suggested the desert imagery to them?

Regardless, I love how they have kind of "forced" the desert themed imagery onto us. Like they are making sure most people specifically picture the desert in their minds when they listen to the album, instead of feeding in our own images (which of course will happen gradually as we all listen to it in our individual environments and certain songs become associated with certain memories).

But it's cool to think that right now, a high percentage of people are collectively going to be imagining a lonely desert landscape when they put this record onto play!
