Look, I haven't heard a lot of Vibert's stuff, but everything I have heard sounds very cartoonish. Does he have more serious (read:darker) material? If he is so close to Afx I would think that he would have explored that territory....

Well...I guess that "cartoony" is his style. He wouldn`t be the same without it.He just creates what he feels like.

While I love inumerable albums of varying genres, my top ten are largely electronic... Here are my top 10 albums and/or EPs right now in order; not necessarily the best albums I have ever heard, but because of their role in my life they have left an indeleble mark on me that can never be erased.
Of course, it goes without saying that this list changes constantly...

1 - Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks

The most haunting atmospheres ever recorded; Eno somehow captured the austere, terrifying beauty and expansiveness of the moon and even space itself with this record. Don't stop at 'An Ending (Ascent)'; listen to the whole thing all the way through. Simultaneous star-gazing strongly recommended... The most perfect album I've ever heard.

2 - Boards of Canada - The Campfire Headphase

Many people here may disagree, but to me this is the Boards' most accomplished record to date. It has a much more tangible beauty than 'Geogaddi' (which I may someday like more than this record, but not yet) and it never gets boring with repeated listens to me.

3 - Aphex Twin - Druqks

Drukqs can either be your best friend or your worst enemy; there's really no inbetween. It took me forever to finally appreciate, let alone enjoy, this incredibly expansive album. Once you 'get' it, Drukqs is some of the most fun you can have listening to music.

4 - Polygon Window - Surfing On Sine Waves

On their own the tracks contained herein are not on par with Richard D. James best work, but represented as a whole they create an inimitable atmosphere. I first listened to this album during a very profound period in my life... 'Surfing On Sine Waves' is inextricably tied to that time for better or for worse.

5 - Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children

The first BoC release I ever heard (back in 2002) all the way through... I just remember being absolutely blown away by 'Telephasic Workshop' and listening to it on repeat all day. This album will always be exemplary of BoC's sound and I will always treasure my copy.

6 - Autechre - LP5

I only recently got this and I can already hear how this could be Autechre's best work... What can I say about it that hasn't already been said; it's the perfect fusion of early ambient/melodic Autechre and insane Autechre. 'Acroyear' may just be my favorite Autechre track ever.

7 - Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92

I can only imagine how revolutionary it must've been to hear this album for the first time back in 1992. Unlike most albums of this genre, practically every track is a classic... Can Richard ever top this?

8 - Autechre - Garbage EP

Even though it only contains four tracks, these are four of the best tracks Autechre have ever produced. Groovy beats and tear-inducing melody all on the same EP... A must-hear.

9 - Brothomstates - Claro

I hate to start off by saying how underrated this album is, but that's exactly what it is; an underrated masterpiece that fell through the fissures excised by genre superstars like Aphex and Autechre. This album blends together everything I love about electronic music perfectly... You must pick 'Claro' up if you haven't already.

10 - Moby - Play

One of the first 'electronic' records I ever listened to... This album was instrumental for me getting through Math 11 in one piece, and I will forever be indebted to it for that. Most of the music Moby made before and after 'Play' was forgettable, but Play will always be a special album to me.

I agree with almost every review you wrote there.. and it also makes me long to a few years back in time, just to experience all these albums again. The combination of age and the electronic revolution gives it a touch that I'm afraid off will never ever come back again. Some really made a huge impact on me and despite of that I tend to forget the power they gave me back then..and still do imperceptibly.
Sometimes when I get a little drunk and play some of these tunes again I really capture that atmosphere like it was yesterday.

I wonder if I ever manage to make a real all time album list with all the albums that made an impact on me and where I am today in the world of music.

I might think real hard and post a top 10 of all time with a full description like that. Let's get all melodramatic

inspired by gioter i kinda feel like writing a little bit about my selections from page 1

1 my bloody valentine loveless
bougt it last fall and was strucken by sheer distorted beauty of 'only shallow' and 'i only said.' ever since its been treasured and saved for good listening nights

2 boc MHTRTC
also purchased last fall, was introduced to song 'roygbiv' by my brother, got hooked and bought it. ever since from the beginning of 'wildlife' to the ending monlogues of 'one very...' it has been an adventure!

3 mono walking cloud deep...
one of THE most haunting post rock albums ever made, this is a rare jem from our friends in japan. great for listneing at nite and whatnot...a must for guitar players

4 radiohead the bends
given to me by a girl a couple springs ago and it will always remind me of the better times with her

5 my bloody valentine isnt anything
only album on the list i try not to listen to....reminds me of winter and snow and to this date is the only album to scare me...i get chills, feel nervous and am reminded of bad times

6 sonic youth daydream nation
replacing dntel i like this album much more and it slipped my mind making the list....the ebst album from noise rock pioneers...reminds me of urban decay and the squaler of teenage life...if i have an anthem...its 'teenage riot'

7 adolescents self titled
this one is out there but it is the best punk album i have ever heard...a classic in every way...my band has covered atleast half this album and its helped me through a lot

8 a silver mount zion horses in the sky
i managed to see this band in my hometown just last month and the concert changed the way i look at music...best thing i probablty will ever see...so majestic and beautiful...id love to be in a band liek this

9 massive attack and mad professor...
bought just last summer but it has such a great meltdown dub handle to it that i cant get enough...great for late nights and early mornings

10 BOC geogaddi
along with MHTRTC, this album has been a gateway to get into more electronic and odd performers...notable standouts are julie and candy, alpha and omega, the devil is in the details, and dawn chorus....JUST SO GOOD

I wouldn't say Im obliged...BoC is just one of the only music that truly represents my taste of music.
