Isn't it silly Warp hasn't digitally released it yet?

truly insightful. this may indeed be a reason. even indie labels pride themselves on saying ABCDEF reached #151 in the Billboard 200 Albums on the debut week. more people haven't heard BoC than have and they are very much still a group that could still be 'marketed to the grander public', so statistics like ## on _____ chart would make sense to try and achieve.

bdzz wrote:"Why bother preordering from Warp?" is currently a valid question
Above anything else, for a band like BoC, I wanted the Vinyl and knew that buying directly from their label would give them the most profit.

I did also assume that Bleep would hook early pre-orders up for some reason, I dunno why. But that wasn't why I pre-ordered. If I'm going to buy music, it's going to be on Vinyl and it's going to be from the label that the artist is on (so they get the money). saving a couple of bucks defeats the purpose entirely.

Well based on Bleep's newsletter this morning (which goes out of its way to discuss digitals):

"CD and Vinyl purchases come with MP3 download delivered on release date in your territory

Digital available from 10th of June"

So.. those of us in the West who ordered from Bleep - wait.

Have I missed something?

The only legit way to get the album (in the UK anyway) is on the 10th. The fact that the internet exists does not change this. Releasing digital formats early, either in response to this or to share the love with fans, has no basis in logic. Why not ship all the vinyl out a week early? It has the same legitimacy as getting the dl early.

The album has leaked, of course. It would have leaked anyway and Warp can't change the release dates in each country. It's only your own desire to have it before the release date that's driving this conversation and IMHO the ones who are being silly.

Also, until you guys ordering from Bleep get your delivery how can you say you're unhappy? You're talking yourself into being unhappy with a situation that doesn't yet and my never exist.

Yep. I knew from the outset what the deal was. If you bought the record or the CD you automatically were given a free download on the release date. I ordered the vinyl, so i expect my download on the 10th.

This attitude has historically been the music industry's bane. The internet has changed everything when it comes to content delivery. To me this is probably silliest opinion expressed in this thread. No offense.

It's cool - I can wait. For those of us who choose not to pirate that'll be our lot. Doesn't make much sense though in our globalized world.

well i sure didn't know what the deal was, but i initially figured there would be some incentive for ordering 3 copies of the cd and vinyl the second it was available. then once the discussion kept going, that there would be a good reason to assume an early release of the digital downloads. now that 'everyone' has heard it, and the tracks are readily available, there's no reason at all for them to not release them.

i'm not really whining for myself as i am complaining about their PR. i already have the tracks and plan on driving out to the desert the second i punch out tomorrow. it's just that i 'had' to pirate them. i want a god damned pat on the back for racking up my credit card with 6 pre-orders the day of the announcement, or at least a reach around.

Now you're being silly! Of course the internet changed things and record companies were very slow to get what was happening but not Warp. No, they were right there from the start. I wasn't expressing an opinion I was stating an obvious fact as part of my point.

I'll try and explain again as it's probably my fault for not being clear.

They could issue all downloads on the same day worldwide. But they won't because of charts AND the hard formats. The hard format people should not be penalised for choosing that option. The fact that you can illegally download the album now doesn't mean that they should ship my LP and CD early any more than it means they should make the files available on Bleep early. Okay, you go on-line and these Japanese people have got and you want it and wah-wah and it's tough but that's that. It's the only way that makes business sense to Warp and Bleep. And I'll say it more clearly: that fact that the internet exists doesn't alter completely the reality of release dates in different countries.

It would be silly if there was a month between release dates but we're talking about days. People can wait or they can't they know where to go to dl it. If people don't want to pay they have ways of getting it this week, next week and for the foreseeable future.
The real issue and silliness is that people are pissed off that the lucky old Japanese got to have it first. Like you, disavowed, they will just have to wait.

I preordered the vinyl from Bleep, and if I'm not mistaken, I should have it tomorrow (I'm in ireland, and tomorrow's the release date here).

BunnyRabbit -- I don't think anyone is pissed off. It's 'understandable' that Warp would wait to release it digitally, but it doesn't change that there's a fundamental misunderstanding between the 'real world' and the internet. The chart thing makes sense, but at the same time, sales > charts. I guarantee you they would've sold more copies if Bleep had been the first place anywhere to post the album digitally.

No one is living in a bubble. If you want the album, you'll download it from the first place that has it. And it was available the DAY of the stream -- that early. To me, it is RIDICULOUS that, as a business, Bleep/Warp did not take advantage of profit by beating the pirates and offering the album first.

Physical releases are a separate entity entirely. That shouldn't be affected. Digital, however, is different. These files are literally just sitting on Bleep's servers waiting for an okay to go live. They've likely been that way at least since the stream.

"Real fans" will buy it, but most internet music nerds have their 'stakes' in a million different bands. I know I do. Anything that looks interesting to me, I download. I don't consider how the band's making money, how the label's making money -- if I want it, I'll download it. I might listen to something for years before it really starts to ring out as something I want to have a physical copy of, and then I'm a fan. For non-fans, once they've heard something, the chances of buying said something dwindles exponentially. If record companies understood just how big of a group this "internet music nerd" demographic is, every label would at least offer digital copies of their music the second they get word the album's leaked online. People WOULD buy it on a whim. They WOULD make more money.

As it stands we're in a transitional world and everyone's playing catch-up except the consumers, who live in the here and now and couldn't give a fuck about release dates when it comes to digital music.

I'm not pissed that Bleep didn't offer it early. I never expected them to. I, like the majority of BoC fans and non-BoC fans alike, downloaded the stream and/or the Japanese rip as it became available. That's the thing -- whether we're buying this album or not, we're getting the music. There's no 'reason' to be angry, because we're making out just fine. I just think it's silly, that's all, that Bleep is so forward-thinking yet do not understand this concept of "Piracy diminishes demand" (so beat em before it leaks!).

Fair enough. But I think freetards will still be freetards whenever you release. And fans will pay in the end.
