One of the things I noticed off of TH is that a lot of the tracks use a synth sound that has a timbre similar to trumpets or brass. Like "Cold Earth", "Sick Times", "Split Your Infinities", but especially "Semena Mertvykh".

If you listen to the sound in "Semena Mertvykh" that comes in around 1:30 (the highest melody in the track), I think there's a strong brass/trumpet sound.

Now given the nuclear post-apocalyptic theme of TH, do you think that this sound is trying to echo or reference to the sound of sirens you hear from things like air raids, tornados, etc.

This is the sound I'm talking about.



Like that video, the high brass synth sound in "Semena Mertvykh" isn't monophonic, but in intervals descending together.

I just notice both a similarity in timbre and arrangement, as well as a dark, sort of eerie feeling. They both give off feelings of "What's gonna come next?" to the listener.

Anyways, think it's just a stretch of my imagination, or think they were trying to give off that vibe?

Yeah interesting idea. Would fit the theme of the album

But the last track is basically some strings slowed down 2 or 3 times. If you speed it up in whatever music software you have it sounds like a more typical string sound, so the brass doesn't actually exist

i don't think there is that much of a 'post-apocolyptic' theme specifically... that was briefly mentioned in the only interview for the record thus far.

i think that makes sense and i hear the brass tones but i don't they were intentionally trying to reference sirens, etc.

Honestly? I think it's just because the kinds of music they're emulating, the 70s and early 80s synth soundtrack stuff, channel idents like at the beginning of Gemini etc used a lot of synth brass. It's just evocative of the time.

I agree, however this sounds like a dread or menace. When I've heard Semena Mertvyh for the first time in the TH announcement video, it immediately called the Tangerine Dream music from mid 70's to my mind (especially the bootleg ones from 1975) - this music gave very similar mood.

From technical point of view the sound itself which ArbitersGround talks about: it is either a mellotron brass or trumpet or any analogue synth (PWM wave and then some effects to make it more dirty).

To me, Palace Posy sounds like a medieval celebration complete with trumpets, drums, tambourines, jesters, and Morris dancers.
