Disregarding all of the hoax part of the whole thing, I'm starting to think that the original posting of the Red Moon picture was a test to see how well the fan community would be at cracking the code.
The picture that was posted on Twitter for the Lake Dolores listening party was close to the same idea, and it would make sense to me if they posted the Red Moon as a test, and only just recently was able to actually do something with the idea.

I always wondered what that was about. I just left it as a message to those in the know (hexagon sun members?). From the looks of it, they really had to dumb down the code this time. The last code was case sensitive, alpha-numeric and had some punctuation, not to mention all the strings were different lengths.
Or questioned but they declined to answer.fdamb wrote:Hah, yeah it's funny how none of the interviewers have questioned about the weird phenomenon that has gone on over the years regarding red moon, new clear dawn, etc. I remember sitting there and watching that eye flash. Sort of wish the new album was half as dramatic as the PR we've been dealt.
