Do you actually like it? I've never been able to get into the Beach Boys... One of the most overrated bands I can think of; mabye someday I'll feel differently, but they sure don't have that timelessness that The Beatles seem to have in their sound...

I'm currently listening to that creepy track that some people think is 'Stowed Under'.

"Pet Sounds" from the Beach Boys is one of the most influential records ever, i hope you feel different one day?! Like the Beatles they had their own sound as well.

Yeah, Beatles are a big fave. I've been trying to go through and listen to all of the "must listen to before you die" albums, that I've never heard.

I didn't even realize I had Pet Sounds, until I noticed that the Beach Boys had shown up on my iPod (friend put it on there).

It's definitely a catchy album. The first couple of songs are definitely the low-point of the album (save "Wouldn't It Be Nice") and things really start to pick up at "Let's Go Away For Awhile", which if I recall correctly is a dandy instrumental.

Some pretty dark and sexy lyrics (for that time) comprise the second half of the album.

So.. for the time being I'll give it a thumbs up. Don't think it's in my top ten, or ever will be, but definitely worth a listen and I'm sure I'll listen to it again in the very near future.

I had actually kickstarted the album hoping to hear "Good Vibrations" and try to pick apart the electro-theremin portion.

Incidentally, Piggy is my favorite song on that last record. My admiration for Reznor's music has increased tenfold lately. He's a very talented producer.

I just wish his lyrics weren't so hard to stomach sometimes.

That's what I love so much about NIN. His lyrics are raw and most of the time speak the absolute truth.

I don't know about "truth," but I definitely agree with "raw." I just... let's use Piggy as an example, think that some of his songs are perfect. Like I don't know how they could be a whole lot better than they are sometimes.

I really like the soundtrack he did for Classic Quake as well. Especially the "Freezing Vertigo" track. That one always sends chills up my spine.

Odd Nosdam "The Burner". Wow, his stuff is amazing. It is really growing on me. And I've learned to really dig the remix on TCH.

Seriously the Beach Boys were amazing. I love Pet Sounds, but I really really love "Friends 20/20". I think that it's a better record honestly. I kind of feel bad for folks who don't "get it" yet. I'd say if you'd like to check out some of their stuff definetly start with "Friends 20/20", better songs and more diverse.

I guess I'm one of those who don't.... unless they have material that is ENTIRELY different from the stuff I hear on TV and the radio. Beach Boys songs have always struck me as a little vacuous... what makes Pet Sounds so different?

They have way more complex material then what you hear on the radio. They definetly had an experimental phase. Check it out if you can.

Props to Brian Wilson for featuring a theremin in the track 'Good Vibrations'; that was a huge step for pop-music at the time... That still doesn't save the track for me though because those airy-fairy Beach Boy falsetto harmonies still kick in making me want to puke.

I can see and hear the so-called brilliance of these guys; it's definately there! I think I have to start somewhere other than 'Pet Sounds' though because that one just isn't doing it for me yet... Though I've gotta admit that 'God Only Knows' is quite an excellent track.
