There have been two occasions when I've listened to all 3 in order, back to back in one sitting. The first time I did so I was depressed as fuck, overweight, living like a hermit despite it being summer time and was doing nothing creative. After that listen-through I decided Geogaddi was the best by a mile. (And this wasn't long after I had gotten into BoC so I had no idea about all the scary details surrounding it)

The second time was about a month ago, I'd dropped four stone, feeling a bit happier, working on music all the time, had my EP picked up by a label and was actually starting to enjoy the fact that the first signs of spring and summer were coming through. After that listen-through it was The Campfire Headphase all the way.

I wonder what frame of mind and situation I have to be in for MHTRTC to come out on top. That album contains two of probably my top 5 BoC songs so it's strange that it's never been #1 for me.

I voted geogaddi immediately without thinking about it before, but I'm starting to realize TCH is my favorite right now. I never would have thought that would happen. When it came out it was weird because I felt like it was "meant for me"(not in a tinfoil hat way, it just has my "vibe" or whatever) but I was always a little frustrated because I couldn't get fully into it, and now I think it's stunning.

So now every album has been my favorite at some point. MHTRTC holds the record for being my favorite the longest though.

On The Campfire Headphase, I have to say I can never understand the lack of love it receives from fans. Well, I can, in that Music Has the Right and Geogaddi are pure unadulterated sonic bliss from start to finish, so it's up against stiff competition amongst Boards' discography, but what gets me is that people were actually somewhat disappointed about the different direction of the album upon its' realise. That's the best part about it for me. An artist like BoC should of course stick to what they do best, but it's so good that they didn't just release a re-hash of their last two albums, and moved in a (slightly) different direction, at least, with the addition of guitar riffs and melodies.

For me, TCH is their chillout album. It's such a mellower and more uplifting album from start to finish (Bar maybe a couple of moments, err, Slow This Bird Down being possibly their darkest track) and it's generally suitable to be played in so many more situations. It may not be my favourite, but I love everything about it, and I'm glad they made it exactly as they did.

Geogaddi, definitely. It is almost as one long piece of music to me. One of those hypothetical ten records I'd take with me if only ten were allowed (to be honest, I do not have such a list... The only other album i am sure would qulaify, is Tangerine Dream's Alpha Centauri). The only thing I dislike is the silence of Magic Window, which I brought back to 0:00 minutes on my mp3 player.

MhtRtC is also great, of course, but I learned to know that album shortly after I learned to know BoC Maxima (also a great album which is weirdly missing from the poll?? Well I would have voted Geogaddi anyway). As these albums share half of their tracks, I still hope they will at one point be released together as Music has the Right To Conjoined Twins.

The Campfire Headphase was a much more lightweighted album imho, and I even think it was intended as such. I like it, but not on a same level as Geogaddi and MhtRtC / Boc Maxima. It's a collection of similar tracks for which the whole of it isn't much greater than the sum of its parts - except of course being a consistent sounding album. It contains decent and sometimes brilliant tracks, yet the best tracks of that era are from the Trans Canadian Highway: Skyliner and Left Side Drive.

Geogaddi
Music Has The Right To Children
The Campfire Headphase / Tomorrow's Harvest (tied)

Each album has their own standout tracks, and it also depends what mood I'm in. This of course doesn't include BoC's other brilliant releases, In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country, Twoism, etc.

I've seen several people compare the darkness of Geogaddi to TH, IMO they are two types of darkness, Geogaddi has a sinister vibe running through it, while TH has a melancholic / apocalypse atmosphere.

Indeed it is the hardest question, and of course does depend very much on mood, setting etc.
But currently for me its:
1. MHTRTC and TH
2. GEO
3. TCH

And as for 'other' official releases...
1. IABPOITC
2. HI SCORES
3. TWOISM
4. TRANS (acronym TCH again!)

Note: favourites are subject to change on a whim without prior notice

I agree to the first part of your statement (two types of darkness) but I never think of Geogaddi as sinister... More like... adventurous. The dangers present on Geogaddi are challenging, but the hypothetical protagonist always manages to avoid serious damage and/or defeat. In the end, everything will be fine!

On Tomorrow's Harvest, this is different, even opposite at points: the optimism that is prevalent in several tracks seems misguided at closer inspection. In the end, which is nigh, everything will most probably not be fine...

I do understand what you mean, there is certainly more of a hopeful vibe in Geogaddi than TH. Everytime I hear Semena Mertvykh, I feel/think of utter desolation/isolation.

someone asked for a petition to Warp over on the other site asking to release
all the unreleased live tracks, which to me seemed odd as it ignores what everyone has been
asking: release the unreleased tracks, not just live, ALL of it.

oh and repress the albums but give Geogaddi first preference

They are all incredible works of art, but yeah, TH is really feeling like their best work to date.
