Maybe there is some old thread about it but I want to make a new one, for new GOOD horror movies. Me and my roommate have a huge passion for horror movies but there are so many and so many extremely bad ones. So please some help from you guys.
We seen a lot..and I mean a lot so maybe some not so well known. Thanks

Try "Funny man", I found this movie on a bad commercial dvd transferred from a vhs and sold at a cheap price in a supermarket. It's an amazing movie, I never saw a movie like this one, Christopher Lee is making a little guest in.

It's an horror comedy, I guess, it's a bad movie but with genius scenes and ideas at some moments. One scene remember me the SUDA 51 universe from the videp game killer 7.It's a special gem for me, one of the strangest movie I've seen.

Hmm, I'll have to check that out. I still play Killer 7 sometimes to this day (and quite sadly still have not beaten it yet...)

EDIT found the movie in full on youtube for those interested.

I also recommend the movie 'Funny Games'. I think there are two versions (one from the US and the original from Austria) I can't remember which one I saw (I think the US version) but it was really good.

I'm not sure how big of a fan base this movie has, but I rather love "The Strangers" for it's warm atmosphere in direction, as well as how quiet the movie is. Still in Hollywood land, "The Ring" looks quite nice with its blue-ish tint to it and plays nice along the psychological nerve. They're both big successes with recent reviews, so they're no-brainers for choices for horror fans to at least check out.

Off the beaten path, I'd recommend the silent movie "Begotten" from the 90's. Specifically the opening scene. I found out about it through a fan made video for "Blue Calx" by Aphex Twin. The video is long gone, but the movie, though rare to find in physical format, is widely available online.

Noroi: The Curse
I'm very jaded of horror movies, and they have never really scared me on the level I wish they did, but man oh man, this movie had me pretty fucking scared. It's very psychological and the work on details throughout is beautiful.

someone put the entire thing on youtube and no one has done anything about it yet

And yes, some of these are more sci-fi/body horror/thriller material..but they are all creepy and horrifying in different ways. Hope something piques yr interest on this list....

Also I must say that The Strangers is NOT a film I enjoyed. Got dragged to the theatre to see it against my will when it came out, disappointing and lackluster IMO. To me it felt like cheap scares, aimed at teens, and just dumbed down. I understand that it's minimalism is what attracts many people to it but I was infuriated even WATCHING it the first time. But, to each their own. End rant.

Andrzej Zulawski's Possession (1981) is worth a watch if you're looking for something unique. And I really mean unique. I haven't seen anything else quite like it. It has an amazing soundtrack too.

Haha, I think I might chicken out on this one as well. What's really the point of being SO scared? I watched Funny Man and it was....fun, it had it's moments. I will be watching Possession next!

edit: watched Noroi The Curse. Not very scary. I mean I read a review of one guy comparing it to the scariness of The Exorcist. Not even close.

Just watched Hour Of The Wolf ("Vargtimmen") yesterday. Pretty much Bergman's only "proper" horror film, and one of the best ones in that category I've seen.

Saw Witchboard on VHS when it came out in 1986.

I watched it alone and it frightened the bejaysus out of me.

I can't remember if it's actually any good though, but that's not to say it isn't. Or is.

I saw it yesterday and yeah, it was good but not really my cup of tea..Some scenes were nice but over all it was nothing that really gripped me..
I guess it's very individually what scares people. I think I'm an easy target for jump scares and ghost story's...I actually think Shutter, a ghost movie made in Thailand is one of the worst I have seen, very classic and very good. It gives you everything you expect out of Asian horror movie.

Watch this with a nice, loud sound setting, slight fever and enjoy the show. Probably the best horror I have ever seen. Amazing imagery and the director is an amazing sound-artist to boot. Also a 15 minute psychedelic freak-out to look forward to.
