An unofficial bootleg that's essentially a compilation of tracks found on rare/limited releases..see here:purgruv wrote:What's this?

The preparation for a dive is always a tense time.
I know what you mean, it starts off with the nice loud synth, then as soon as the beat comes in it 'squashes' the synth right down so it you can barely hear it.mc10101 wrote:I love Korona, but I only have an mp3 rip of the original vinyl. It sounds very over compressed tho and I'm not sure whether it's the rip or really sounds that way....?
Same rip here -
I own a copy of mask100 though and can tell you that that is exactly how it is on the actual 12".

It's really weird how I came across that Korona track. My first experience with Boards' music was from my brother playing Aquarius about 3 years ago. I listened to that track quite a lot (and a select few others) and then only about a year and a half ago I finally decided I wanted to hear more from them. My dad sort of knew of them and told me he had a CD of their music (that he'd been given) somewhere - but didn't know or remember anything about it. After spending ages looking through old ikea CD drawers I found a CD-R with 'boards of canada' scribbled on, imported it only to find a load of untitled tracks. I had to use soundhound to name them all and it was an unusual mix of tracks - Roygbiv, Happy Cycling, Turquoise Hexagon Sun, Open the Light, all of IABPOITC, a couple of tracks from Twoism and Korona (which took me a while to track down as it was unlisted and not from any official release... I thought I might have come across a rare and special piece of music at first, but sadly it's not one of BoC's missing tracks.)

Thanks Kid, that's interesting. Maybe it was one of those early straight-to-cassette recordings where the 'auto level control' would suck the track right up as soon as the bass/drums come in...??kid wrote:I know what you mean, it starts off with the nice loud synth, then as soon as the beat comes in it 'squashes' the synth right down so it you can barely hear it.mc10101 wrote:I love Korona, but I only have an mp3 rip of the original vinyl. Ughhhh!
I came across this 12" at Amoeba in LA back in April. They actually had two copies... I ALMOST bought it, but wasn't quite sure, and figured since they had multiple copies I could either a) pick it up next time I stopped in, or b) there was sure to be readily available copies everywhere. How wrong and foolish of me.
A huge regret, and I even got my cousin to check back a couple of times to try and get it for me after I had left, but no luck

Ah, just caved and bought it off of Discogs for $30 (including shipping to Canada so I guess not terrible.)creativeowlet wrote:Was there on sunday. Still had a few copies of it sitting on the shelf.Titanisiam wrote:Ughhhh!

Does anyone have any idea how many of these were made available? The guy I bought it from has this posted "20 white labeled test pressings exist."
I doubt that few... but yeah. Also, how are stores (legally) able to sell bootlegs like this?
According to Discogs, there are 20 white label test pressings and an unknown (probably high) quantity of the regular kind.Titanisiam wrote:Ah, just caved and bought it off of Discogs for $30 (including shipping to Canada so I guess not terrible.)creativeowlet wrote:Was there on sunday.
