Today I got my de-bug magazine which has a 10 page special on BoC...so..who is interested in a write up

Can you tell me about the pictures used in the article?
Also, I got this response from de:bug when I asked about getting the issue in the states:
"We usually don't ship outside of germany, so we have to add shipping costs almost as high as the issue costs ... hmpf. So if you transfer 4 euros for the magazine and 3,45 euros for the shipping to paypal@de-bug.de via paypal and give us your adress, we're happy to send you the BoC issue (7,45 Euros are about 10 Dollars)".
But yeah, tell us about it!
Also, I got this response from de:bug when I asked about getting the issue in the states:

well the first part is kind of a summary of what yet happened...then comes a german translation of the interview that was already readable online...then there is a BoC ABC (doesn't include all letters though) then some kind of interview with a guy who talks about what effect the Cosecha hunt had (and no that guy is in no means related too) picutres...is basically online the magazine front...the picutre of the band which kan also be found as a header here on twoism...then a photo of......err...Mike? seemingly from the same shoot...and a pic of BoC rushing through a forest

NICE!! Happy that Tonx got his pics in there, I was hoping they used some fan photos from that day. Woo!!!

...was an important career push for the Boards. Sean Booth helped them get their first record deal, when he forwarded a tape to the Manchester-based Skam label, where the first BoC EP "Hi scores" as well as their first album was released. Together with Autechre they played their first and third of a total of ten live shows.

only after the release of "The Campfire Headphase" they admitted to be brothers. The "Eoin" Marcus was using as an artist-family name was simply his middle name. The Reason: They didn't want to draw comparison to Orbital.

Campfire Headphase
The precursor to "Tomorrow's Harvest" many claim to be Boards Of Canada's weakest album. After the tight, overly synthetic tracks on "Geogaddi", with its complex references and occultist undertones, the purposefully laidback-sounding record was deemed a failure by many. On the record the Sandisons worked with somewhat clean guitars with an almost summer happiness sound, that fit well with the goal to an american roadmovie-aesthetic. No childrens voices no devilish campfires in the indie-tronica jungle. Still underrated and overlooked.

Documentaries
Mike and Marcus are huge fans of nature films. When they lived in Canada as kids they soaked up the films of the National Boards Of Canada.
David Koresh
A great inspiration for the "In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country" EP from 2000 was the Branch-Davidian-sect lead by David Koresh (see Waco tragedy in 1993). A portion of a picture of him also pops up in the EPs accomanying artwork. "Come out and live in a beautiful place out in the country" was an alleged recruitment slogan of the sect, made popular by Amo Bishop Roden, whom Boards Of Canada chose as a name for their most beautiful compositions yet.

Homebase of the Boards from the early 80s. Mike and Marcus were born 1970 and 1971, the family moved between Scotland and London repeatedly and also spend the mid- and late-70s in Canada. In Edinburgh the brothers went to school and university and formed the artist circle "Hexagon Sun" and build their studio of the same name.

None of the releases pre-"Hi Scores" was released officially, only "Twoism" was re-released by Warp in 2002. Online their are many rips and bootlegs, but the only onces known to be official are "Boc Maxima" and "Old Tunes Vol. 1". All the other tapes were only given to friends and probably never made their way to the net. Instead their are many recreated tracks or EPs made up of mis-tagged MP3s (for example "Hooper Bay" is made up of tracks by the Icelandic band múm. Then and now Tapes pop up on eBay: Recently Mike Paradinas and his wife cleaned up their shelves and sold the tapes for 1.000 pounds each

The Boards build their frequencies and melodies with a favor of patterns, in a way that they pop up in nature, for example the Fibonacci sequence or the Golden Ratio.

Mike and Marcus released a handfull of tracks under this moniker, as if it wasn't complicated enough already.On the fifth and final part of the MASK-12" series the Emo-experts [sic] dropped their best song of all time, which is the, of course totally unauthorized remix of "The Midas Touch".

There are many theories what the title of the second album "Geogaddi" could mean. The brothers leave the answer open most of the time. That the first track of the album "The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter" by the Incredible String Band is titled "Koeeoaddi There" is probably not just a conicidence.

Leslie Nielsen
The "naked gun" has a feature on Geogaddi: Don't believe it? The Canadian did not only work in radio features but also did voice-over work for nature- , history- and science documentaries of the National Geographic and the National Film Boards of Canada. On the track "Dandelion" you can hear Nielsen exlain an underwater dives, underwater explosions and sea dandelions. The Sample is rumored to be from "Dive To The Edge of Creation" from 1980.

Since 1997 the starting point of the brothers and their friends. The open platform was and is the way where, under a huge deal of secrecy, they dare contact with the public. Films, artwork, music and the like gets released in this manner. Even though the bands records nowadays get released on Warp they still carry the music70 logo.

The first Boards Of Canada release on Warp is claimed to be a milestone in the bands history. After many tapes, a self-released EP and a few releases on skam, their melancholy sound was made available to the public for the first time 1998. The band profited from the good maeketing and Warp where happy to have signed a "famous" band.

Marcus explained in an interview that "Loveless" by MBV was one of his five favorite records and was guide to BoCs sound aesthetic.

It stands for Mark David Garrett, the official unofficial spokesperson of the band on various online platforms.In the name of Hexagon Sun he comments on authenticity of Rips of old tapes. He was also involved in the marketing campaign for the new album. He also gave a hint to the big question of [Vinyl] reissues. If it was him. he would pay tremendous prices on eBay but rather wait.

These were used to hide messages in secret service, shortwave number codes and code combinations were sent as missions, warnings, messages. On "Geogaddi" BoC insert Number Station samples and help boost their secrecy.

One of the big hits of the band and symptomatic for its simplicity. Monochrome beat, childrens voices, and an eternal melody. Released on "MHTRTC", "Boc Maxima" and "Warp20 (Chosen)". The title is unpronouncable but is a mnemonic forf the rainbow colours in order.

Favorite colour and trademark (see Turquoise Hexagon Sun). Once it was believed that the colour of the universe was turquoise. All their album covers follow this pattern, except "Geogaddi", which become turquoise if you invert the colours. Nowaday the science is advanced and it has been figured that Cosmic Turquoise is more of a "Cosmic Latte"

The brothers Sandison are into mathematical inside jokes and Numerical curiosities. For example the "weird numbers" that are referenced in "The Smallest Weird number" from the album MHTRTC [sic]. The Smallest weird number is 70. Source of the name Music70? Wikipedia says that the natural number n is called weird, if it is abundant but not pseudo fulfilled. The aren't able to be represented by the sum of some of their naturial divisors, even if the sum exceeds the number n", got it?
