Secret Code in 'Cold Earth'?

Post by Headphase »

Anyone notice the child counting around 1:56 of Cold Earth? Maybe it's another code!

These are the numbers (in order) that I heard: 278427222734784224734784232734784273

Did anyone hear anything different?

There are definately 36 numbers which goes along with the 6 sets of 6 from the last code.
I heard the numbers 686 repeated about 4 times within the sequence.
I do think the same 9 numbers are on repeat.
Its so difficult to tell what the other numbers are.

Thread just got closed by admin and got directed this way (kinda wish there was a thread merge function for the admins but hey ho :) )

So Headphase, cfish and a few others I expect, noticed that Cold Earth contains vocals for what could be 36 numbers

cfish wrote:

IF the vocal samples are all numbers, there are 36 of them. Hopefully they'll be clearer/more decipherable once my legit copy from Bleep arrives.

Apophenia, perhaps... But still interesting.

Been listening to the WAVs as closely as possible, and this is all I can make out:

178621/062131/7862?2/121786/?32131/7862?3

The stuff in bold, I'm pretty sure about. Regular fonts are maybes. Question marks = I have no clue, but they still sound vaguely like numbers.

I also tried substituting 4 and 5 for the question marks at cosecha-transmisiones.com, but no dice. Maybe someone else can hear it better.

You've got to admit though...most of the samples are definitely numbers, and the fact that there are exactly 36 of them would make you think it's more than coincidental.

It does seem like a big coincidence considering the original cosecha code was 36 digits, too. Of course, the problem is that the numbers are very hard to make out.

If we all have a go at trying to figure the numbers out as we hear them, perhaps we can get a consensus and try a few potential codes on http://cosecha-transmisiones.com/ . Got to be worth a try, even if it's a wild goose chase. Smile

So I knocked up a quick webpage where you can type in what you think the numbers are.

www.intraludus.com

A couple of important points

* Just type in a 36 digit number and hit return. The table on the page will show the results so far. i.e. there are 36 columns (one for each number) and 10 rows (0-9). The cells of the table contain the number of times a particular digit has been suggested for a particular position.

* The bottom line of the table shows the consensus code, so far.

* Only type one code per person, please. Have a really good few listens and jot down your best guess of the 36 digits. Only then should you key them in.

Just a bit of fun really, and something to do next time you listen to Cold Earth. And anyway, none of us can say for sure that it won't lead to anything unless we try, hey? Smile

As an aside, I think when the person says an 'eeen' sort of sound, that's a 9. Just a guess though.

First time I heard this track I actually thought it was little slices of Energy Crisis rather than numbers. (I don't think it's either anymore, just random half syllable slices of something). I tell you what though when they kick in on the track is an awesome moment.

If you guys are gonna attempt to rack your brains listening to Cold Earth to figure out the number sequence, I'd highly suggest you cancel out the mono field of the recording and give it a shot listening that way (go into a simple audio editor like Audacity, split the stereo track to two individual mono tracks, and phase invert one of the tracks).
The "numbers" in Cold Earth become much more apparent when the mono track is removed -- though when I listened to the track like this a few days ago it became clear that some of the syllables are going to be almost impossible to discern, and may or may not even be numbers.

Everyone keeps talking about numbers but I don't hear any at all. It's letters or short words to me.

my ears keep telling me something is missing. the percs sound thin, filtered. seems like some of the punch that would be there isn't. like something has to be added to it to fill it out.

what makes me think otherwise, is that you couldn't do anything like that to the vinyl. (without recording etc). I just get a funny vibe from it.

I think it's different enough to merit it's own topic. The discussion isn't about the song, per se.

I agree - please leave it open Fredd-E :) Look at it this way - it'll stop us polluting the Cold Earth thread with conspiracy theories, hey? :)

3 people have entered codes on www.intraludus.com so far, and we've got good consensus on some of the 'numbers'. Others are not so great.

It seems to me that the same voice sample is used each time a number is said, i.e. I'm not sure if there are multiple voices for the same number - this is especially obvious with the number 2, for example.

If it is the case that there is only one voice sample per number, this surely helps narrow things down a bit on some of the harder ones

Same. From first listen to now its always sounded like something (alot) is missing - too much hiss and space between the music and the ear. And the album title; Tomorrow's Harvest... Then again maybe it's just the VHS thing they were going for

I just thought I'd point out, the cosecha website input isn't limited to numeric characters. Maybe some of those samples actually represent alpha characters?

Wow, I've created a monster! :)

Nice work on the intraludus.com site, miklatov!

As for what adecentman said, has anyone tried messing with the track in Audacity to isolate the numbers/letters? If you have, please share the result.

I'm pretty firm in the belief that they are all, in fact, numbers. So even if some of them are completely unintelligible...if we can agree on what MOST of them are, we could create a manageable list of 36-digit sequences to try brute-forcing at the cosecha-transmisiones site.

Which leads me to a few thoughts...

-If the cosecha site was only meant to be used for the buildup to the announcement of TH, why is it still up? Why not just redirect to the BoC site? For that matter, why is hexagonsun.com redirecting there instead of boardsofcanada.com?

-Also, the domain name is cosecha-transmisiones. As in "transmissions", plural. The name itself speaks to the fact that there may be others besides the TH announcement/Semena Mertvykh video.
