Aphex Twin?
Are there any fans of this band on the forum? Of course Aphex Twin will never top Boards of Canada, but it is one of my favorites.
The-Artist-64 of deviantART, tumblr and elsewhere. Just a Boards of Canada fan trying to unlock the secrets and origin of the band. A retro person in the modern age.
I quite enjoy some of his work, SAW II and the RDJ album in particular, but there's a lot of his work that I think is absolute trash. RDJ is a very inconsistent artist and I don't think he cares that he is.
In terms of other artists in the IDM (or ambient techno, if you're a douchebag who wants to get all up in arms about the term IDM) genre besides BoC, RDJ is actually somewhat low on the list for me.
I would even go as far as to say he's quite overrated and nowhere near BoC, but he's been a huge influence to many artists nonetheless and deserves recognition, though I just really feel like FSoL was doing a much better version of the sort of thing he was doing at the same time and for some reasons he garnered a lot more attention.

Okay...now...wait for fog machine.
I'm mostly a SAW fan I suppose, as out of my some 6000 tracked plays about 4500 come from those two albums.. I like the others a great deal too, but don't rate them nowhere near as high as the SAWs. He was so prolific that his discography became a hit and miss sort of thing, but there's something for everyone.
I hate his persona so much, hah. I wish I didn't know it's him behind all the albums.DaveJ wrote:He's a weird fucker too, and i like that.

Yea, Aphex is great, but only for some stuff. I like RDJ album, I Care BEcause You Do, Druqks, but I didn't like Come To Daddy or any of his older acid work. Just not my tastes. He's really creative, but also inconsistent.

A man, not a band. And who in BoC -forum does not like Aphex?
( or at least his more ambient stuff ) ...although he should stop doing washing machine rave music live shows ( yes I've seen one) and put some new material out and stop teasing fans about tons of stuff lying around not getting released ( just like BoC..though they delivered with TH).

his live sets are awesome, I think I've seen him live 5 times now at various gigs and festivals. I've seen a lot of live stuff, but he currently holds the record for the one I enjoyed the most...when he played at one of the glade festivals. I remember Autechre were on straight after, but I was so exhausted from dancing all day (it was really hot and sunny that year too!) that i pretty much passed out for most of their set...I think I heard the first 10 minutes or so.Saakki wrote:A man, not a band. I love the way he progresses through his sets from ambient right through to pounding gabba at the end.
coincidentally I happened to dig out druqks today and was listening to it when I saw this thread. (the 4x12" audiophile version of course!)
His visuals on this video are really great. To make them interactive with the audience is nice. I wish I could see him live one day.
