Oscar See Through Red Eye nuances

This may either be the most obvious thing in the world and no one has mentioned it, or it has eluded many people but:

Has anybody noticed that Oscar See Through Red Eye is basically a reprisal of every song before it on TCH? It has the guitar from Chromakey Dreamcoat pitch shifted and stretched to fit the tempo. It has the strings doing the same run from Dayvan Cowboy in the background right before the aforementioned guitar part from Chromakey.

Also, the chord progression itself throughout the song is reminiscent of Peacock Tail. The samples towards the last third of the song are reminiscent of '84 Pontiac Dream. Not sure if there's anything that resembles Satellite Anthem Icarus in there, but I'm sure there must be.

Again, sorry if this was all super obvious, but I looked on the BOCpages and on Last.fm and no one seemed to notice that there were so many familiar reprisals in this song. BOC are amazing.

EDIT: This would also fit with the theme of TCH being about someone recalling memories over the course of a week (I think it was?) at a campfire. It's as though OSTRE is the faded memories of the first half of the album.

can you point out some of these things with second marks?

i'm really surprised that I never heard that the melody that pings in around :53 and repeats until 1:20 (guest appearance at 2:04, too) really does sound like a pitch-shifted sample of the guitar from Chromakey. (is that what you're talking about?) But I can't hear the dayvan-ish strings you mention, or much from other samples.

I really like this theory (why wouldn't they have tracks that tie in / reprise on TCH? i never really thought of this until hearing it done more obviously on TH), and the guitar really sticks out to me.

I re-listened to that badboy yesterday, whilt spending some time re-packing my backpack... it really is a great piece of work. I think that, perhaps more than their other releases, TCH may seem to have more to offer in time; in the sense of how this alternative 'play' on overt accoustic-sounding instruments was explored in this electronic/analogue aesthetic. It's a beautiful piece of work...

I first listened to Campfire Headphase whilst tripping on LSD. I was only familiar with MHTRTC at the time and relatively new to BoC.

We put the album on as the trip came on, by the time Oscar see thru red eye hit it was a nostalgic boom for all the preceding music just taken in. My connection with Chromakey Dreamcoat was so strong it felt like forced deja vu, and i instantly said to my friend that its the SAME sound in track friggen 2.

He had bought the album earlier that week, and had already listened to it, but we got to the point where we had to stop, flick back to track 2 and see if i was just tripping. My friend didn't agree that the guitar sample was the same at all, but for me it was obvious.

the rest of the night we went for a walk and ended up at a cemetery. The guitar in Oscar was constantly repeating itself over and over in my mind for the next 6 hours, was loving it but had to put on more music in the morning to get it out!

I agree with the summery of the OP and that it's like a mash up of the entire album. It's still my favorite BoC, and Tomorrow's harvest makes me like it even more now that i've finally had the inclination to put on anything but TH.

totally agree. Oscar See Through Red is one of the most detailed productions they ever did.

Beautiful stereo effects in particular. My favourite moment on Campfire Head.

i would say the percs in pete standing alone or chinook are among their most detailed pieces.

i can easily say that "the campfire headphase" is my favorite boc album.

actually, it might even be my favorite album of all time by any musician.

I can understand the praises about how detailed the song is, but to me, it sounds mish-mashy and polluted. When I see comments about Jacquard Causeway being a "wreck", with all the clashing melodies, the first thing that pops up in my mind is Oscar See Through Red Eye; it sounds exactly like that, like it doesn't know which way to turn. It sounds like a cheaper attempt at redoing Peacock Tail.

Oscar See Through Red Eye flows clean as a whistle for me. it's got a rigid blend of organic and synthetic soundscapes. Darker sounding song with it's most prominent harmony, which sounds awesome throughout with the tiny tweaks added to each wave. It's got plenty of subtlety behind all the fancy melodies... the sound of birds.

I'd say it was the track i liked the most initially, but now it's Satellite Anthem, 84 Pontiac Dream, Dreamcoat

Am i right in hearing no bird(s) in TH?

jacquard causeway is absolutely incredible. but i guess i can understand how some people can be thrown off by it, there are a few different timing patterns going on during that track, and if your ears arent keen to the right one, it probably sounds too far off beat. personally. its one of my favorite tracks on tomorrows harvest. the keyboards\synths in jacquard causeway are among some of boc's best work

but back to subject.
