Wow, I can't believe this original rip was finally sourced out! Big thanks to the uploader: I can finally retire my mp3 version! While it doesn't really sound much different than the rip we were all so used to, the spectrum on this .flac version is beautiful and proves that this is the real deal: probably the best rip of Maxima we're ever going to get!
I make music as Sweguno.

there was as whole missing chuck of chinook in there!

re: handing out tapes to friends....you do that and don't expect stuff to get copied and passed around?...you didn't think to hard about what you were doing.
its like making a mix tape for yer buddy...someone hears it and asks for a copy. you make him one.

boc are extremely good about protecting their music [geogaddi unleaked, harvest unleaked, head record unleaked]. this seems like it was all done in fun for friends. [or so the legend goes] so whatever happens with this stuff happens. it was handed out openly once.

and im REALLY thankful they did. this shit is SO SICK.
said it before and ill say it again...if this all gets released properly...ill be the first one to buck up!

*disclaimer: UNLEAKED is purely a fabricated werd. solely created to for the purposes of this post. do not be alarmed
geogaddi did leak. I had it before release date, cant remember how long before release now...maybe a week or so.
a week...still pretty good! ;)

If you believe the story, Boards Of Canada gave BoC Maxima as a demo tape to Autechre. Someone at SKAM leaked BoC Maxima by copying onto MD or CDR for a friend.

And a friend of a friend finally gave a rip of the CDR to the general public via followers of the old IDM ring...

Nice find but this needs some work to sort out the bass, time for a re-re-master!
I wonder what kind of tape player was used at the time to copy this?

Done and done friend. Seen a couple of people posting about a remaster from these lossless files, and had some free time today, so I thought I'd contribute for the first time to Twoism. Details in the "What you're working on right now" thread. Zip. should be up and ready for download in an hour or two

People here keep talking about remastering, but I am in serious doubt that anyone here even has the capacity to actually remaster a track, and to make it clear, and attempting to not cause any offence but tinkering in audacity or using a soft audio pack in your DAW of choice isn't even close to remastering.

Please check your heads.

I think there's potential for a good sound from this, more than what's already been done...

ONTHE88's version seems quite safe - doesn't change the tape's tone much, which is a good thing in some cases - but it would be interesting to try a fuller remaster, to help recover the clarity that's in there, to have a good deal of the hiss lowered as well and still get a good sound, which I think is possible.

I'm planning on working on this shortly. And I have a fair idea... Would take a wee bit more time. I don't think anything can be done about the distortion - but all going well, it should sound balanced, clearer and less noisy...

If it's of interest here, I'll upload something of it to listen to as soon as completed.

To add: Any ideas as to why the Wildlife Analysis and Chinook are in mono?

jlgui: I've decided to go with your track times for the latest remaster. The adjustments are generally complete; just need to decide whether to make any last corrections. Unable to get rid of the various distortion unfortunately - that aside, EQ-wise, all the tracks are balanced out.

Those that don't have much distortion sound as good as I've heard from cassette. Nlogax in particular sounds really nice after adjustment -- there should hopefully be something of the tracks to listen to tomorrow if all goes well.
