Random 35 tracks tape in FLAC?
I found R35TT in FLAC on Soulseek. I don't know if it's real FLAC or not. The running time is exactly the same as the version we already know but the sound is different. Maybe a different RIP or some kind of remastering? I don't know. Can someone help me?

Hmm, thank you, this is a very nice find. The audio here is clearer and hiss seems to be removed. I'd also figure someone tweaked the "originals"?
I ran A08, A09 and B06 through Audiochecker and they were all 99-100% MPEG, so this probably is not lossless. Someone with spectral knowledge should confirm this.
It still seems a lot better overall than what's been available until now. Most of those annoying clicks seem to be removed as well. I'd like to think this is the original source & someone made a very poor conversion from it, but it's beyond me how that could have added the tape hiss there.
It's also funny how the tracks are named 1:1 to how I have them. I wrote the tracklist in one thread here some time earlier. Maybe you downloaded this from a fellow Twoismer? (unless you tagged these

Here are the spectra from the 2 sources:

I don't know enough about transcodes to say for sure, but I think this is just a filtered copy of the original mp3s. A lot of the hiss has been removed but you can hear some digital artifacts here and there. I noticed that you can pick out a few extra details in the flac that were obscured by the hiss in the originals. I think I'll be keeping both versions.

I think whoever did this seems to have done marvellous work. Haven't listened through the whole tape, but listen to the beginning of She Is P for example. It's a lot clearer, I don't think this could be achieved with plain filtering. Transcode is a lesser evil in these kinds of cases, in my opinion.Waterbagel wrote:But you can't make a nicer, higher quality file out of a lower quality one.
In other words, "you can't polish shit." (mythbusters episode notwithstanding)
Most probably it's the same version I did some time ago

Tracks are in flac just to preserve quality of original mp3.
As to mastering, I was bored and wanted to enhance a bit the sound of R35TT by removing hiss and using some eq and filters in Audition. I'm not a professional, some tracks may sound a bit deformed (for example noise in audiotrack A08 on mark 4:12), so it isn't a substitute of of original mp3s. I'd love to hear R35TT version of someone who is experienced with all this mastering stuff.
Thanks for appreciation of my work.

It is the exact same version, I checked some audio hashes. Now, your pointed source would probably be the go-to place as nobody knows what route those Soulseek files have gone through (although, with identical hashes, it doesn't really matter - just didn't check each and every one).brtc wrote:Most probably it's the same version I did some time ago

I'd like to thank you again, this is the best version I've come across thus far.
