Maybe every BoC fan isn't perfect after all...

Post by BrunchTime »

So I'm working tonight (i'm a server at a fancy tapas restaurant) and I'm playing BoC, and I've got a late table sitting around talking about various sweeteners (honey vs agave, etc). When I picked up their bills after they left, one of them left a note that said "thanks for the BoC, i love it." and she tipped 10%. I felt truly betrayed. She was my worst tipper all night. I can't imagine she was being sarcastic, i think she just doesn't know how to tip. They all acted like trophy wives, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Just sharing. 20% is pretty standard for good service, in case you're going to leave cute notes for your waiter and you don't want to leave him reeling. I sorta doubt she really appreciates BoC on the deep level that we all do. I guarantee she's never listened to a whole track reversed.

She _thinks_ she loves BoC.

I've never understood tipping. The more expensive the food you order, the more you have to tip.

I'd much rather the venue had an up front service charge.

yeah dude that's why I work at a fancy restaurant. I agree; it's a silly convention that allows business owners to pay you less than a living wage, but nothing's going to change any time soon.

I have a hard time relating to this. 20% for good service? What if they didn't think the service was as good as you think it is?

probably moving to a country where you're not a modern day slave helps
i do feel sorry for people stuck in these kind of jobs, ridiculous to think you could live on $4 an hour and tips or w/e it is

Oh, you got all your food in a timely manner? I offered you drinks/dessert and was friendly even though you kept me late at work? And you leave a note about how you loved the music? Better leave an insulting tip. It's hard not to take it personally.

I don't know why you all think i'm trolling. Is it the postcount? Is it the America thing? I'm 100% serious about all this, looks like i dont fit in with real boc fans either.

I think you're just making a too big thing out of it. She broke the tipping etiquette and knows Boc, that's all. Forget about her and go forward. :P

best advice i've gotten all day. just needed to vent, really. It's difficult not to take it hard since basically nobody knows BoC in my town

They didn't choose your job for you.

Maybe they didn't enjoy the food? Maybe they thought you were annoying? Maybe they thought 10% was enough? Maybe there are a lot of maybe's you're not considering?

I hope you're trolling. If not, I think child labor laws in America need to be scrutinized.

no its just (like Basefree said) you're taking the whole situation a bit too far. this is one bad tip. deal with it man.

also, instead of venting on a forum dedicated to a music group how about you like, write this in a journal or something. this really doesnt belong on the BoC subforum

so in other words you're saying you're pissed that you didn't get a higher tip simply because it seems you made a BoC fan happy? what does it have to do with anything? It's stupid...it would, to me, be the same as if a fangirl would pass out if she heard Justin Bieber over the PA in an KFC or something and afterwards would give the waiter/cashier ten times the price

Hmm 10% is about right. In fact, this tipping thing is a bit strange, i mean we only tip in restaurants anyway, why does no-one else get a tip? Why do they need a tip, is the salary crap?

10% a bad tip? Sheesh, crazy world. 10%'s my max, but then again I'm just confuddled by the whole notion.
