My god, I just relistened to it (haven't in a long time) and yes, this is indeed bleak. Totally agree on the Game Over feeling. Reminds me of the old game Earthbound for some reason.
Gonna have to listen to something more cheery now to get it out of my head!
corsair, undeniably. the chords it goes through, the general sound of it, and the fact that it's the closer to such a dark album after some light almost baaarely shines through. and its not even the last track aw geez

I get that vibe, absolutely. I just feel like it's more of a "aww, the fun times are over.. Back to mundane life", whereas Semena Mertvykh.. Woof.
I can't believe Diving Station hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet. That bit of music just sounds like no hope to me. The melancholy of the piano melody. The fluttering of an LFO in the big, empty, verby background. Reminds me of something Akira Yamaoka would've composed for the early silent hill games.
I can't relate to almost any of them being dark, save for TH. Except the one I took my username from (I've no idea why no one ever mentions Basefree anywhere, it's like it never existed), and a couple of others, but Diving Station for example? I just can't see (hear) it. The piano should be spooky or colder if there was anything Silent Hill esque about it. For comparison:
for me it is Seven Forty Seven...it remeinds me of having the scene in silent hill where there is all this fog etc. and that just in lopp for an eternetiy
somehow it is new seeds...it goes from happy to bleak (at least for me)

A Beautiful Place Out In The Country sounds like someone remembering good times when the end is near. It's not surprising given the inspiration for the EP. Try listening to it while reading the wikipedia entry for David Koresh. It's pretty bleak.
A friend told me a story a few years back about how a group of them tried to climb to the top of Ben Macdui in the middle of July with shorts and tshirts on. Half way over the plateau a freak blizzard caught them and they genuinely thought they would die up there. I thought "That would make a really bleak movie". A coming of age story about a group of friends who go on their first adventure in to the mountains, get lost and tragically die. I'd definitely use IABPOITC for the end credits.
I completely forgot Corsair existed! I have not heard the track in a couple years. It was always one of my favorites on Geogaddi and, YES, pretty gull dern somber. Yet, there is this slight glimmer of hopefulness within it. In The Annexe is another contender from that album. It sounds like the acidic tears of a crying building that knows it is wired for demolition. Diving Station never did much for me.
Yes, Semena probably takes the cake, but there are some others.
A LOT of the Twoism EP sounds sick and queasy. It feels like it's struggling to stay alive. Particularly Sixtyniner, Twoism, Blueberry, and Smokes. Basefree never did anything for me.
Zander Two sounds pretty sour, but it also reminds me of the original Resident Evil for some reason.
Boqurant and Powerline Misfortune both sound like funeral dirges from an old video game or educational film. It works.
Audiotrack 12 (Side B) sounds like someone slamming their face into a bathtub full of misery. I love it.
