I can see how some BoC songs could disturb some individuals...but something tells me these individuals aren't very eclectic in what they listen to.
I find Nine Inch Nails to be pretty angsty and boring in terms of lyrical content. Sometimes the music is alright, but I would never call it even mildly "disturbing"
It all has to do with the connections made in your mind associated with certain noises, melodies, or style.
Nine Inch Nails just reminds me what it's like to be a shitty eighth grader. BoC is actually atmospheric and thought-provoking. But that, as they say and as you say, is just me.
For me, any disturbing feeling from Boards' music is mostly a result of its background context, such as the 'god with hooves' thing. In pure musical terms, it's just sunshine with some exceptions (like TH). Or if not sunshine, just gray and moody then, nothing disturbing or scary.
I could use this as an example of menacing electronic music. It's something that would disturb me or at least raise my awareness if I was to listen it out in the night, but not that much otherwise.
