Are the brothers pulling the wool over our eyes?

Yeah, jokes on us.

In regards to TH having the most subliminal messages.

Post by telephasicworkshop »

There's actually more use of subliminals on this record than on any previous album we've done, so we're interested to see what people will pick up on.
Doesn't seem like people have been finding much in this regard. Do you think BoC is pulling an Aphex Twin here?

Maybe they're just taking the piss out of their fans a bit. I mean Geogaddi is loaded with these things, and I think people have found most of them. TH either has them very well hidden, or it's a little joke on their dedicated fans.

Thoughts?

I think the fans take subliminal messages, real or imagined, much more seriously than the band does. That's what I think.

Sure, but there's no doubt that they hid a ton of stuff, especially in Geogaddi.

There's a lot of sampled speech like radio and looped things but they're mostly indecipherable. So that's a bit dull, because everyone might hear them in a whole different way. I don't remember which track was it now but there's a sample that can sound like both "Thank vegan" and "Thank Gary" depending on how you listen to it. And the end of Gemini is also too silent and mumbled to make anything reasonable out of it.

They don't mean it that way though, since they expect us to pick them up.

They probably mean pick up in the papers. Am I the only one sculpting meaningful shapes in shaving cream?

how do we do that if they exist below the threshold of consciousness? or are they not subliminal?

I think the music is the focal point? Either they are fooling those who are stupidly obsessed enough to analyse everything or they are just having fun themselves by throwing the odd titbit in. We all know Tomorrow's Harvest has a running theme with a few under samples on fema camps and stuff but that's it... nothing more. It's just lovely music!

I assume they just use that term in broader sense ie. reversed or low-volume things. I don't believe there's anything genuinely subliminal in any Boc's music.
