I have a hunch that the next BoC live thing will be an online experience. Not so good for the fans who could have potentially made the journey to the real thing, but great for all of the other fans who have internet and aren't living in China.

NASA has recently confirmed that their 2021 manned-Mars missions will be piloted by Mike and Marcus. When asked about how they felt about Mars, the brothers simply stated, "Mars is pretty IDM". They will beam a 6 month live performance (from the spacecraft) consisting of every track they have made since 1985.

Hmmm... I'm not so sure. An online thing doesn't strike me as being "really special" and as far as I can tell, the band isn't that fond of the Internet. That being said, the promotion for TH was almost entirely online. For some reason, I keep thinking of something which would bring fans closer to the band and even allow them to participate somehow.

I don't think a series of live events is out of the question..to give something back to the fans? The following BOC now have surely is enough for a few open air or large arena shows. Maybe a couple in the UK, a couple on mainland Europe and one gig on each coast of the US?

If the sound and visuals are handled correctly it would be an experience not to be missed.

The fans would come.

It was only meant as a lighthearted introduction to the topic. I don't really expect Boards of Canada to abduct people. I'm just wondering what people might have in mind for a "really special" live event.

fairnuff. been a few funny ones turning up since TH was announced, left me all a tizzy.

regarding the live question and a unique venue. i had a dream of a show in an igloo. just had a look and came across this abandoned igloo hotel in Alaska.

realistically though, rather than finding some far out venue they're likely focusing on unique ways to interpret the music; performance wise (playing live instruments, backing musicians, combining with their tech) and presentation wise (fresh visuals by the chap who did the Reach for the Dead promo) inside a traditional venue. add some elongated versions of TH tracks, unreleased gems and old tracks morphed out of recognition into fresh new shapes, and we would have an arresting live experience which Warp can put out on DVD. i would be surprised if they play outside the UK or play more than once or twice. playing live and getting it right is a huge ask for a group who haven't done it in years, baby steps.

Agree totally. They know all too well how 'wrong' they could get it. There is real value to the mystique surrounding BOC and I for one would hate to see that ruined by poorly judged/executed live shows.
On the other hand; to hear their music (at least partially live) on a really beefy system, great visuals, and to know that they are actually there would be bladder-weakeningly exciting!

I would like to take this opportunity to invite Boards of Canada to play a show at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington. It is the right size for the band's fan base and the acoustics are spectacular.

Yeah, I know, right? Plus, it reminds me of the Lake Delores listening party. It so fits the motif of the album. I couldn't help but think about the Gorge when I was watching the listening party. People could come from Canada and Oregon to see the show. Someone forward this to mdg.

I'd had trouble picturing a BIG venue that would suit BOC, but this is amazing! And I would assume, being stateside, that the weather could be relied upon too. Unfortunately for fans outside America (like myself) it would cost an arm and a leg and possibly other body parts too!
No doubt it could be truly spectacular tho

It depends. From the perspective of someone who lives in Western Washington, Eastern Washington is wicked hot in the summer and unearthly cold in the winter. However, your mileage may vary. I've gone to concerts there in July and it was hot, but manageable. So I guess it really depends on the when and how of it all.

they mentioned more than once the expansion of their studio space. i may be reading too much into it here but ... would this not lend some possibility to more live events in situ? small Hexagon Sun type dealios. i have mentioned this before but i think having expanded their home studio, that the best solution would be to have a gathering of close friends - but - and here is is where it might sound like cheddar, but stay with me - televise or at least film the thing.

they have just massively expanded their listening base with all the fun building up to the release of TH, people want to see them live and are all slowly learning they just don't do the touring thing (which only fuels the fire), they have experience playing small live gigs to small groups of friends - and its fair to say they might still enjoy doing this after a hiatus.

having this new popularity/ breaking previous record sales figures - it would be wise for WARP to keep the momentum and put up for a polished recording of a live event. pay per view or even as a live concert during something like a PBS (public TV here in the states) funding drive. i know it might not be as popular as Yanni live at the Acropolis, but they have quietly crept a bit further into the mainstream so its not unreasonable to think something huge like this is out of reach.

i think it is also the most equitable approach for a non-touring band that, despite some travel, tends to stay put. i know each of us would do all they could to attend a live performance but certainly not all of us could attend even a small tour of a few major cities. however, i would think very few of us would turn down a nicely filmed, 8.1 surround sound, Blu Ray DVD ...

while filmed concerts can be cheesy - their film-score sounds are perfect for some great visuals and editing in post-production. kind of like 'The Wall Live' concept mixed in and out of the live performance. i know they would sell at least one DVD.
