I think pre-ordering albums has been irreparably ruined for me.

While the Avalanches are still at work on the follow-up to 2000's Since I Left You, the group have updated their social media accounts and their website. Their Facebook, Twitter, (brand new and not-yet-used) Instagram, SoundCloud, YouTube, and website all feature the same image of a small gold butterfly on black fabric, as Stereogum points out. They've given no indication as to what it may mean. See the image below. Last year, founding member Darren Seltmann left the Avalanches. It was the first significant news from them since Danny Brown said in 2014 that his collaboration with them will "change the world."

As usual, there's no real news on when the Avalanches album will come out. Here's what we knew four years ago.

Thanks whoever bumped this. Bought SILY when it came out but never really got on with it at the time. Rediscovered this morning and it made my day. Superb. Cheer's!

Yesterday, the Avalanches updated their social media accounts, providing hope that news on their very, very long-awaited follow-up to 2000's Since I Left You would come imminently. They still have not given any new word on the album, but it's been announced that they'll play three festival shows this summer: Barcelona's Primavera Sound (on June 3 at Parc del Fòrum and June 5 at the closing party in the sala Apolo), London's Field Day (June 12), and Australia's Splendour in the Grass (July 22-24). The Avalanches' last DJ set was in 2011 and their last live performance was in 2007.

Well, I really agree with you. This will be very, very, very hard to top.
I think they'll put out another solid release, but I doubt it will top Since I left you.

well I care because if it's shite then where's all the hype gone? It's all this kinetic energy which topples like when your four year old nephew ruins your game of Jenga.

It might even create a roll over effect where some of the backlash goes back onto Since I Left You (which has already been getting some retrospective backlash as of late anyway)

A stone cold classic. I almost don't want them to release a follow up as I can't see how they could possibly top SILY.

Listened to this whole thing for the first time last night and it honestly blew me away on first listen, something not many albums have managed to do in recent times. I was planning on only listening to the first few tracks, but I couldn't find it in me to stop. Can't wait to give this more time to sink in, discovering amazing music always makes me want to giggle like a little girl!

you know how much I normally write about a record?

I can do that for each damn track on Since I Left You, it's an incredible feat for the human race.

Also, I'm really surprised by the things people are saying about their first album. It just sounds like pretty boring dance music to me. Nothing I haven't heard before.
