I always assumed it was said just as it's spelt: "Ee-oyn"

Looking into it now it appears it's usually just pronounced as Owen after all. Hm.

I think it sounds better like that!

I figured it was something like 'Owen' on the assumption that it was a Scottish Gaelic pronunciation; those names aren't always as they seem when written down... One of my favourites is 'Ceilidh'.

The most time I spent fretting over a pronunciation (without having looked it up) was probably 'Autechre'.

And then once I figured that out, the next step was how to pronounce the song titles...

That's a cool name. our baby daughter arrived a few weeks ago and we toyed with alot of irish gaelic names but worried about people having trouble pronouncing - Niamh (Neev) is another one or Siobhan (She-vorn) - great names though

The only evidence I have to go on is that former Scottish football player Eoin Jess' first name is pronounced exactly the same as the name Ian so I've always assumed it's Marcus Ian, at least that's how I pronounce it in my head.

E-an is how footie commentators (and myself) always pronounced it:

Capped only 18 times for Scotland. Jess was supposed to be the next Dalglish.
