Some clips of a few tracks, as a small preview of what it sounds like - 95% satisfied with it:
Boc Maxima (Beta Remaster) Preview
One last little tweak and it's done - then it's just a case of waiting for it to upload... Hope that's alright!

That is... wow... I can hear a extra little bass note in the left channel on Nlogax and I love the kick on Whitewater.Betacord wrote:Some clips of a few tracks, as a small preview of what it sounds like - 95% satisfied with it:

jlgui - I've noticed that in the tracks that you split, Sixtyniner has the end bass note cut short, literally missing about a second - so, instead of flowing correctly into Red Moss, it skips... How did that happen?
June 9th into Niagara transitions fine, for example. But that's the only one I've checked otherwise.
Attempting to re-add the end of Sixtyniner now to restore the flow - but for the rest, I'll have to leave them as you've cut them... I trust that most are okay?
Also discovered something perhaps a bit odd with the actual cassette rip re: waveform phase...

First, sorry for my bad english...
I cut the files only with a cue sheet so sometime the splits are not perfect...
Remenber the original tracklisting is :
1. Boards Of Canada - Wildlife Analysis / Chinook / Rodox Video / Everything You Do Is A Balloon (Intro) (8:24)
2. Boards Of Canada - Everything You Do Is A Balloon (5:26)
3. Boards Of Canada - Boc Maxima / Roygbiv (4:00)
4. Boards Of Canada - Nova Scotia Robots / June 9th / Niagara / Skimming Stones (9:37)
5. Boards Of Canada - Sixtyniner (5:17)
6. Boards Of Canada - Red Moss (6:16)
7. Boards Of Canada - Concourse (1:42)
8. Boards Of Canada - Carcan / Nlogax (6:59)
9. Boards Of Canada - M9 (3:43)
10. Boards Of Canada - Original Nlogax / Turquoise Hexagon Sun (6:22)
11. Boards Of Canada - Whitewater / One Very Important Thought (7:25)
I think there are 3 little clicks :
- In Everything You Do Is A Balloon at 1:29
- Between Roygbiv and Nova Scotia Robots
- Between Sixtyniner and Red Moss
You can find the missing part in the 11 tracks version :

Sorry...
If you want to be purist about losing no audio data at all in the splitting process, you have to compare the image crc32s for the tape both before and after splitting. You can do this easily with Cuetools without having to turn anything into images first.
Here is the CRC table for the 11-track Maxima FLAC:
edit: though, in the end, I think some fade in/outs and click removals would be the best option. If you listen closely to Red Moss' beginning in the original, it clicks after the intro. Funny that it's not present on the old 320kbps rips which can be who-knows how mutilated and transcoded otherwise.

The bolded value is the important one here. It should match after you've split the tracks. Otherwise some data has been lost (or silence added).[CUETools log; Date: 14/08/2013 17:16:02; Version: 2.1.4]

I Might Be Wrong
Basefree : I don t think that will work here because the 11 tracks version has repeated song parts and there is also silence that adds to the play time. This means that the 11 track actually ends up being longer than the 20 track version.
11 tracks version clocks at 1:05:12
20 tracks version with correct edit clocks like 1:04:44 or so...

Examples :Basefree wrote:Where?jlgui wrote:Basefree : I don t think that will work here because the 11 tracks version has repeated song parts
Listen Everything You Do Is A Balloon, same parts of the song two times...
Between Roygbiv and Nova Scotia Robots like 3 seconds extra
Between Skimming Stones and Sixtyniner like 3 seconds extra
If only this was a straight transfer of the whole cassette in one go, and not all of the unusual gaps, fades, and repeat sections, it would have been online by now - but of course, not as simple as that...jlgui wrote:Betacord : Tonight the night?
The actual sound is very good overall, but the way it was ripped is just bizarre and all over the place. I'm interested in addressing some of that - little things that could be improved by going back and editing - it seems right to check first, before making anything final.
