Hey.

So, anyone who's seen my posts probably knows that I was disappointed by Tomorrow's Harvest, and by no means am I the only one. I also stated that there were several tracks I felt could work better in an EP. I noted how there was quite a bit of repetition on many tracks, and how some of them that are really great on first listen (like Nothing is Real) go on for a bit too long after you've listened to it a lot.

Well, I created that EP. I sorted through the tracks and put together a mix that I feel works and is more...coherent? I guess that would be the best way to describe it. More coherent than the album. I've structured this EP in a similar fashion to BoC's older releases (i.e. tiny vignettes at the end of main songs) and I've incorporated elements of their "transmissions". I've also made some other changes that I don't quite want to spoil. Anyways, before you react, whatever reaction it may be - REMEMBER! This is just a fan screwing around with BoC's work, so please don't be upset if you loved TH and despise me for doing this.

Anyways:

I, Fierce Telepath

As for the sound...you'll just have to find out.

Hint: turns out three tracks on TH fit together perfectly in layers - four actually, but I excluded one as I feel it's best on its own.

Plus, I needed 6 tracks. The cover is obviously an homage to Hi Scores (text and colorization of the video screencap were all manually done, btw, didn't just layer Hi Scores' artwork over it and change the opacity). The letters appear sharper to represent the times - it is no longer 1996, and we're living in the digital age.

The shifting of the text is a double entendre metaphor:

1. Representation of how much BoC has changed from back when they put out their first release.
2. Alludes to the shifty, static-filled transmissions.

The EP isn't necessarily a "fuck you" to BoC and I don't want it to come off this way, but I just didn't care for a lot of TH and had an interesting idea. I felt I could make parts of it into an EP that would work better, and personally I prefer it this way, but in no way do I feel I'm the arbiter of opinions and I don't expect anyone necessarily to agree with me. Even though I didn't like TH, I still love those two fuckers for creating what is tied as my favorite album of all time (along with at least two other 9/10 releases), and this is a labor of love (even though it stems from pretty heavy criticism).
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

He's referring to the fact I played it for him in Turntable.

He probably realized Uritual is on this Uritual EP. What a horrible little track.

I'm not bitter, I'm just in acknowledgement that the band that made my favorite album ever (technically a tie) also made a 5/10 album. It's not like I'm utterly confused, their effort before that was only about a 6/10, and their effort before that was a 7.5/10. Geogaddi being a 9.9/10 to me might just have been a fluke on their part. Like I said, I still love BoC - I'm not bitter just because I dislike those songs.

Thanks! Thanks to the bros. mostly, I just changed it all up a bit.

Really? I always thought it was probably the best vignette on the album. Dark, minimal...reminiscent of a single tiny flame flickering in a dark room.

This is really nice, thank you. I love the fact that TH can be mixed together in various ways, it sounds lovely :)

Edit:

I could've summed it up in one sentence, haha.
Well this is quite pleasant!

Well thanks, and again thank the bros - they made the tracks, I just assembled them. Maybe they were meant to be to some extent? I don't know, but it works like crazy in that second track.

it's time to move on with your life and let go OP - you're just in a vocal minority that didn't enjoy TH. That's okay, I was like that with TCH too. Maybe their next one will be more to your liking.

Hardly seems like a minority that didn't like TCH, at least on this forum. All I ever see is constant negativity about it, mostly because BoC had the temerity to use real guitars for once (a "mistake" they've rectified with TH).

Really? From what I've read on here, quite a few like it. In fact, it's probably my favourite Boards of Canada album.

It's all horses for courses on this thread. My favourite is TCH whilst some have the most love for Geogadi. That's how music is.

Can we have a flipping EP soon?
