Indeed. I saw a commercial for it the first time last night. Was watching it thinking, "Hang on.. I've seen this somewhere before.."
Looks like it has higher production values that the original though Unfortunately, that will most likely mean that it will have lost its charm.
Speaking of videos.. can anyone think of a video that they saw and thought, "Damn! That just makes the song a million times better!"

Believe it or not, I can. It's a Michel Gondry video for a Kylie Minogue song called "Come Into My World". Now, the song still sucks no matter what, but with the amazing video behind it, it's quite bearable.
Check it out. The director is brilliant. His DVD of music video's is a nights worth of viewing...

I guess.. that.. it's just extremely rare. I can think of "Around the World" (Daft Punk) by Michel Gondry and definitely that Autechre video that Chris Cunningham did... I remember seeing that for the first time and just being completley blown away. Definitely what turned me on to Autechre so many years ago.. yeah, that was back when MTV actually had music videos on instead of 24/7 of Pimp My Date.

I loved "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode. I haven't seen it in years but I remeber a dude dressed up as a king walking around with a lawn chair or something. Good times. Sorry, off topic.

For my money the best video in the WATMM contest was one for the June 9th one the finished second. If you like it when the video syncs to the music, you really should love this. It's like the ultimate visualization plugin. Watch it sometime on a large screen in a dark room, it's stunning.

Well also off topic , i watched MTV in the beginning when we had it on cable, i was a big fan those days of the program: 120 minutes with Paul King. When that stopped i lost interest, that was early '90s.
Michel Gondry, btw, is a genius. The visual effects he comes up with are so stunning and original, quite amazing stuff. They're sort of like how things happen in dreams, where one things becomes another in a bizarre but seamless way that always seems to make sense at the time.
He did a string of 6 videos for Bjork as well as a number of other videos for other artists. He is now doing movies, he di d Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (very good) and has a new movie coming out called the Science of Sleep.

What was even better was MTV2, or M2 at the time, when it first launched around 96/97. They would play music videos 24/7 with NO commercials, only quick promos and eyecatches for the station itself. It was great b/c I would watch that channel for 2 hours straight and never see a video I had seen before. They showed lots of indie rock, obscure European stuff. It was quite cool... and then they butchered the channel and it's no different than the original MTV.

Wow. That June 9th video that's all over YouTube came from the WATMM contest? I don't think I've ever seen the creator credited.. was really impressive (being the visualization/plug-in whore I am).

Until the town I was living in decided that MTV was corrupting the youth, so they yanked it from the local cable station and replaced it with either "American Movie Classics" or "Turner Classic Movies". I believe it was TCM as not only did they take away my one real source of "new" music, but they replaced it with classics that had been colorized. Fun.

Yeah, that's perhaps true. It was probably thought of as a bit too cold to be the #1, given BoC's earthy/organic vibe.
I don't know if this has been said already or not, but the Eagle in Your Mind video was and is still the best fan-made boc video, stock footage or not.

super8 filmclips and some very nice fuzzy video. i know it's a cliche
to say it was difficult to choose a winner, but it was. so in the end
we figured the john-carpenter-tachyon-video-esque "corsair" clip by
magnus hedberg was nicely done, especially with the additional sounds.
next up was the norman mclaren-ish abstract clip that (anon?) made for
"june 9th", which upon close inspection reveals nice little
synchronisations to the different melody parts in our track. and
finally the overall winner is the brilliant day-glo "gyroscope" clip
by billy clayton, which has just the right lysergic qabala sesame
street feel to it. great stuff.
