The Nostalgia Thread

I am fascinated with the nostalgic aura that BoC tunes can create. What is so interesting is the fact that there is different types. I find myself discussing the feeling I get from a particular track. For instance, BMX Track reminds me of The Breakfast Club and or any other Teen Movie from the 80's, and Sick Times brings thoughts of Family trips up to northern Minnesota when I was young. Audiotrack 11b reminds me of an attic filled with toys. Almost every track brings its own unique thought.

Why is this so addicting?

I was waiting for someone to make this topic. I have ALOT of these.
A1 from R35TT reminds me of guanajuato, a city in mexico. It was back when i had a girl friend. Also Original Nlogax reminds me of that place but at night. Ill post more later, but thank you for this thread. Im looling forward to see the nostalgia of others.

im not going to go on and on about different songs and each feeling.

i will basically sum it up like this.

there is a feeling that goes along with most of the music i listen to, whether its BOC or something else. i look for the music to give me a certain feeling, or show me a certain memory all over again.

the feeling i am describing is impossible to explain, but yet everyone knows which one i mean. its kind of like the feeling you get when you walk outside in the morning and the season has changed to fall or spring. you get this pure high, and its not like anything else.

boc's music seems to force you into feeling some of these states. and i enjoy that.

I agree, and have the same experiences. There are definitely very specific feelings like the examples I mentioned that I also get. Mostly Biosphere, Autechre and BoC give me the extremely specific memories or ideas.

Like fireal said, I wont go into detail about how each song makes me feel.

But I will piggyback on what he said, by adding:

I am amazed by the amount of feeling that BoCs songs cause in me. Not necessarily just nostalgia. Some songs give me anxiety, some literally make me cry (tears from the compound eye), and most others just fill me with the complete feeling of bliss that I cannot get anything else to do, not even drugs!

Timely thread - I thought about making a similar one off the back of Mexicola's comment about Campfire... being an Autumn album.

Campfire takes me back to a really specific time just last summer - despite having listened to it for 7 years by that point, it really clicked into place on holiday last summer - driving around the highlands with Mrs_A_Northern_Soul & Little_A_Northern_Soul_1 and feeling that everything was right in the world and that I was just where I wanted to be.

The other BoC album that stirs up real nostalgic feelings in me is MHTRTC which plays that brilliant nostalgia trick of reminding me of a time in my life long before it came out. Again, it was a family holiday in the highlands when I was younger. When I hear MHTRTC that's the mental image I conjure up, despite it being about 10 years before the album came out.

That's cool how many different angles of memories they can conjur up. Each track on Campfire, with the exception of 84 Pontiac Dream, takes me to a different place, but not so much the past. Although 84 Pontiac dream actually stirs up some serious nostalgia
for me. Theres something about MHTRTC that gives me these thoughts of television shows and commercials from the late 80s-early 90s. more specifically pbs shows like Wild America with Marty Stouffer, or even This Old House. Used to watch those shows with my dad when i was young.

I don't get any specific memories from BoC, (maybe because I didn't grow up in the 80s like them), but the feeling I get is still kind of nostalgic, like a connection with the past in some vague way that is common to all people.

What I find interesting that they have been able to pinpoint this 'nostalgic' quality that is so hard to explain, and then deliberately make it such a key part of their music, like they are conducting a psychological experiment or something.
