I KNOW! I record original music and sound collages on cassette, and in order to get a 'clean' recording (when I want to be less Tape Sounds and more Bearhead, haha) I need to rely on high-bias tapes either purchased secondhand at a local materials exchange or happened upon at a thrift store. They're getting (temporarily? I hope!) scarce in my area, so I'm probably going to need to resort to eBay and the TapeHeads.net classifieds soon.

That's really neat, actually! I record a lot of my stuff onto tapes I've found somewhere or another. I picked up a ton of 'books on tape' for free at a library book sale, so my first run of cassettes may well be recorded over readings of crappy romance novels! ;)

Cassettes have played a huge part in my childhood and youth, and I have plenty of fond, sweet memories associated to them. But honestly? I'm glad that I moved on. Cassettes are unwieldy and inconvenient, and it's a good thing that I don't depend on them the way I did years ago. I don't want to get attached to a particular technology or medium exclusively for reasons of nostalgia. But considering that there are people who have good reasons to cherish cassettes, I think it's fine to have a day on its honour. But "Cassette Store Day" sound silly beyond words.

Seriously where is this "cassette store"?
Cassettes are for thrift stores, promo tapes, Bandcamp/BigCartel releases, taping the radio, trading stuff you ripped from records and CDs, mixtapes and the like.
It's a lot more of a dually inclusive but inaccessible format compared to vinyl, IDK.

I think the Cassette Store Day thing was just a play on the Record Store Day thing. Wouldn't get too caught up on it.
Merely an opportunity for people to put cassettes into stores, and people who don't like cassettes don't have to buy them.

It came and it went without much issue.
