BoC on Piano

I really enjoy learning BoC songs on piano/guitar (but i'm not good at guitar, like, at all). You guys have any suggestions on songs that would lend themselves well to a piano arrangement? Zoetrope would be fun but it'd be pretty tricky to figure out (for me at least)

I had a tipsy guy in his 50s give me five bucks for playing my BoC repertoire a few nights ago. "I think anyone who plays piano like that needs to buy a beer sometimes!" I didn't tell him "naw man i don't do that shit no more."

Here's me going at it. I biff it at a few points but it's not my worst go at it either. I wish i'd nailed Cyclosa, when i get that right it's pretty badass. There's enough in that song I could probably add parts and make it a duet.

Class man!

I can play the bass to Roygbiv, but rest be sweet. Same with Olson and EYDIAB, I only know bits and pieces. Be great to figure out the rest.

Dayvan, Macquaire Ridge and Wildlife analysis would be brilliant, but whatever you think yourself, and whatever you have time for.

No, thanks you man, would love to be able to play some more BoC on the keyboard, just don't have the ear to learn em by myself unfortunately. Keep up the good work!

Definitely, if it's not too much trouble, there's only I think 3 up on youtube, and I'm always eager to learn some new tunes!

Cyclosa is really tricky but once you get it down it's so fun

I'd upload a sketch of Zoetrope on some sheet music if folks think that'd be appropriate. It's probably slightly illegal even though I'm not selling it. It's not like BoC will ever release the sheet music themselves, and everyone on this forum would buy it if they did. Besides, it's a win-win: imagine being sued by BoC.

I would love this. I don't really think BoC is going to sue you dude. They make the music to inspire thinking; well you're inspired to make some sheet music. Honestly they don't even seem to mind piracy. I think the hexagon sun is doing just fine w/o record or sheet music royalties. Someone else already did RFTD anyway, i say go for it, and i'd really really appreciate it.

Okay, this is just a rough sketch. Use the actual tune as a guide. Things vary randomly in the actual tune that would take forever to notate. This is a hard tune to play literally, too.

- Ignore the rhythm completely. It's just a list of chords in order, really, with some chords changing voicing a bit before going to the next one.

- I'd recommend continuously rolling the left hand notes while rolling the right hand notes upward in bursts, and then move the right hand notes up and octave and play them again, and maybe even a third octave.

- Overall, just use it as an aid in using the actual tune as your guide, and improvise with it as you see fit.

Here's a start. I totally biffed Dayvan Cowboy, and i ran out of room on my camera before i played EYDIAB, so there's more to come. Dayvan Cowboy probably deserves a grand piano or something anyway, but it's a good start! I hope you enjoy! The quality isn't great, but you can still tell what's going on, and you get my color commentary to boot!
