OPHIDIAN ENTERPRISES-LINE TWO
And it's only 11 seconds longer than the Catalog 3 version!
Now if only there was a CD version on the internet...

They have other albums too...

What does this mean?
I'm on /mu/ by the way posting my crackpot theories. I googled the name and found something relevant to what seemed to be a dead end on /x/ 2 years so I posted there too.\
But this single in particular seems to be recent according to Bandcamp.
You should come join me on both boards.

It's incredibly odd and I'm not even sure what's going on anymore after initial speculation.PlacentaSand wrote:why would this artist upload a track from catalog 3 saying its an unreleased single? i didnt see the track title so i just thought that this person just found some old recording he did and uploaded it.circleofthesun wrote:IE the one that we don't have which would hopefully be in higher quality.PlacentaSand wrote:catalog 3 version?

Apparently the other two albums were part of or connected to an ARG two years ago.
Might be just a fan hoping someone will pick up on this obscure BoC track?
But the photos, the degradation on these tracks....

Any reference on the aforementioned ARG? I googled "OPHIDIAN_ENTERPRISES" but couldn't find any reference to a thread on /x/ as someone referenced, or anything else of relevance at that.circleofthesun wrote:It's incredibly odd and I'm not even sure what's going on anymore after initial speculation. Anyone here remember scaruffi's description of the alleged early albums?
Yep, sounds about right.Catalogue 3 (Music70, 1987 - Music70, 1997) has three lengthy tracks of rather uneventful ambient electronica (Line Two, Breach Tones, Visual Drone 12) and two shorter tracks. Their mellow, disjointed electronica was not particularly revolutionary.
No, if I'm honest, I never really believed that the guy had heard the real tapes, there's almost no conceivable situation which would explain how he had access to them. I'm of the belief his descriptions were either of fakes or were entirely fabricated, but who can say for sure.

Wow very nice... I hope they reply!circleofthesun wrote:So, I've found and initiated contact with the person/entity/group behind this Bandcamp.
The name (probably an alias?) is Quinn Foerch.
The first public result on Google is this.
As you can see, several Boards related things. As well as that eye kaleidoscope from Bandcamp.
The Cyrillic translates to Euyyšuk Fyrzŝŝd.
Interesting, but probably a gibberish translation of his/her given name.
This is what our conversation is like so far:
*I ask him/her what the deal is, insinuating I think it is explicitly related to Boards of Canada
*Verbatim: Unfortunately, I am not BoC. You're very clever, though. I had to recreate the song in some way. It's been stuck in my head for the last twenty years. And I still wasn't able to capture it.
*I ask if this means he/she has heard the Music 70 tapes, if she still has copies the public would be able to listen to, and what the story is with the stuff on his/her Bandcamp that isn't 100% BoC
*Again, verbatim: I have heard some of the "back catalog" indeed. I have not, however, had the tapes for many years. Take it as you may, true or false, but I assure you that most of my sound has been influenced by Catalog III and the minimalistic atmosphere of Closes. The delay/drone was very popular among Frazier ["Фырзщщд"???] and Mike [but where was Marc???], so I've known.
I found nothing on this name of any relevance to Boards.
This is what I will reply:
Who is Frazier?
"Minimalistic" in what sense? Could you describe these releases in some more detail? Remember that anything we have, even speculation/daydreaming, brings us closer to what these releases were like and maybe even closer to where they may be found/whom they may be found from.
How did you come about acquiring/hearing these tapes, anyhow? Have you any physical evidence of association or contact with the Hexagon Sun?
More importantly, are you still in contact?
Also, what is your relation to the so-called "Facilitator" ARG?
Could you also describe this to me as well?
Also, last minute:
"Frazer Clarke" is credited and thanked on the liner notes of AFOT as well as OTV2.
He's specifically credited on Happy Cycling (no relation to the MHTRTC version) specifically, which would seem to match up with the messy minimal-synth sound of these Ophidian Enterprises releases.

You forget, it's likely Boards of Canada actually spent much of their childhood in Canada?Techboy wrote:BS that person is north american so very unlikely to have had copies of those tapes. Would not and do not trust
The track is alright, wish they had not mangled it so much before posting because I could probably grow to like it
Also I've made some further contact.
We might have something.
We won't know that, until the full assessment has taken place, in due course.
Also please don't bug her about any of this.

I would like this thread deleted.
All of it.
I may have pried too far and have definitely revealed too much of what I found out.
It's unlikely that we will be able to hear the Music 70 catalog beyond outtakes from Hooper and selections from Closes on R35TT, as well as this fascimile.
