Gahhhh so many times I hear faked tracks that I genuinely enjoy, but then have no respect for because they're using boc's name. I get that it's exciting to imagine what these old relics would sound like, but I am so much more interested in people making honest attempts at their own work and monker.

Interesting, I never thought about it that way, and I agree with you. But that is only if the person making the music and naming the "fakes" are the same person. It could very well be someone who just found some obscure track by some local band no one has heard of and then labeled it as BoC for the lolz

Oh yeah, I mean that's different haha. I was just talking about when people create something from scratch.
Mr Sheep wrote:1st track is from the old website and is a snippet of Closes3; never heard the 2nd one before and the 3rd is a track that's been around for a few years (and I've had on my computer for a few years) and is listed as Focus From The Spiral from Closes Vol 1 (I can't remember if it is legit or not, but I've always liked it!)
I've never heard/seen this clip you mention is from the old website...
You're right, sorry about that, I thought it was from the same source as the website snippets "Wouldn't you like to be Free?", "Circle" and "Duffy". They were added to my itunes at the same time (6th Jan 2010), so I made a wrong assumption. There was a thread on here many moons ago where people were discussing various fakes etc and "Closes3" & "Focus On The Spiral" had big question marks over their authenticity (no one knew either way, iirc).
I've personally had Focus on a Spiral since 2009, so lord knows how long it's been doing the rounds.
747Music wrote:BTW take my word for it, it's not Focus On The Spiral. Focus On The Spiral is a very simple tune, nowhere near as complex as this live song. It's not even a remix.
You have it?
Impressive if yes, but eh, to be as paranoid as is characteristic in this community - if you got it off the internet it's 99.9% likely to be a fake.
I got it from a trusted source. A gentleman who every once in a while would show up on soulseek, not in a search, but someone who's user id i knew. It's not an old tune as I have all the old tunes and it not even similar to any of the songs. Track length matches (well it's 1:26, but it was ripped off a cassette so the track length doesn't match the perfect 1:28) and the song doesn't cut out, it starts and ends logically. Also the very sound of the song describes the name of it perfectly. He wouldn't share everything he had though . Only a few rare tidbits.
If someone wants it, PM me. I won't post it as i don't want anyone who stumbles across the website to have it, Only the hardcore boc-ers. I also have Helios Sound and Close3 from the Closes Vol 1 album.
Not quite how I remember finding the tracks and sticking them on my itunes, but I am getting proper forgetful in my old age. There was definitely another thread discussing unknown tracks somewhere.
Yeah i got this track in 2009 from 747music, thats how I recognised it, now i see that. It re-emerged this year, but has been floating around since easily 2005, maybe earlier. So OP has nohting to do with it ha. It's authenticity is basically in dispute. Nobody is quite sure! I'm on the fence, I know Fredd-E is v skeptical, but I know there are people who are totally on board like 747 above. We will probably never know though, as is the way of BoC

nice, that's a cool little read there... so, is the consensus that these are legit tracks then?
[edit: for Techboy if you read this:] Do you remember the Focus here in this thread as the same sound as that one from 747Music?
I'd say it's the new album that's got these things doing the rounds again, but they seem to do the rounds every couple of years heh. I never did see decent evidence of any of these 3 being fake, like "track x is y from artist z" or "mdg: fake", etc. What might fix it is digging through everything and capturing it one place somehow, not scattered across twoism. Maybe bocpages? Something like a 'speculation' topics area might help, where topics can get refined until things get finally proven true or false and then saved for later reference. There's some content sortakinda like that right now, at least for proven fakes I think. I don't really listen to the people that react so strongly/negatively every time Fredd-E puts something up there that winds up being later proven false, but maybe a clearly labeled area would calm the spazzy hate.
[edit: yeah, same here Helios (except for those wack versions on torrents known to be fake)]

Those are indeed the tracks 747 was talking about in the above post. I'm not sure if he got them back when they were first leaked in the mid 2000s or if he got them round about the time of his post - if he got them around 2009 then his story is pretty faulty, but if he got them earlier on then I guess it could be right enough. There is no consensus
Ahhh thanks! His mystery e-friend is maybe another question mark...how they could be morally ok with sharing even one track but not more than a magically chosen small number of them. Hard to imagine the kind of reasoning required there.
Gotcha, good deal. I've only seen things as early as '06-ish in total, and all those other fileshare setups during the fileshare boom that needed wack app installs and stuff kept me away from Soulseek. Missing out on it has been like that gift bite in the rear that keeps on giving bites. ParticleGhost, think it'd help to have a scratched together summary of history/nfos on these tracks?

I only found these recently while on soundcloud, thats really all i can say, besides that they are pretty good fakes, if they are.
