Exactly the same for me. Although The Campfire Headphase has always been my most listened to album, I would have called Geogaddi my all time favorite most of the time. After TH came out (which I still think is a good album) it kind of changed for me, gave me a different view on the beauty of TCH, probably because of the strong contrast in mood.

Good gog, TCH just gets better and better the more you listen to it. The guitars and song structure and layering blows anything else they have done away.

Would it be fair to say, in BoC realms, this is their attempt at a more sparse/minimal sound?

I wish I could say I loved Tomorrows Harvest , because I don't , and I can't bring myself to play it until I like it , forcing myself to accept that it isn't really under-par , and it isn't really an anticlimax after 10 years of waiting for them to drop a new masterpiece.

I maybe like 3 tracks , and out of those 3 tracks , there is maybe one that I actually love. I am completely underwhelmed , and I can't believe it took BOC 10 years to work on something so non-impacting.

I loved MHTRTC , twoism , campfire headphase , and the peel sessions , but I think Tomorrows harvest is a backwards step. I'm all for an artist wanting to step outside themselves and seek new direction , and I know first hand just how difficult it is to make something that doesn't sound like you , but TH is skeletal , bleak and very mediocre.
Maybe the pressure is getting to them and they feel forced to come up with the goods and they can't relax. Someone once said " Force will cause the flow to cease " , so maybe they should ignore the publics expectations and just get back into making stunning music again.

maybe they've just run out of ideas.....

Technically , it sounds great , and the production is flawless , but musically , my friends are making better music on soundcloud and they get no recognition. Unsung heroes.

I noticed a very different promotional campaign for TH too. I was added by Tomorrows Harvest on facebook. Not sure who they were , but I seen a very varied and really good promo campaign , and seen marcus and Eoin put a lot of the mystique to one side and had a more personal approach by showing their faces more . I like the professionalism and how it was all presented , but musically.....what a letdown.
Im not one of those people who would shout from the rooftops if BOC released a version of Humpty Dumpty like some would.

I prefer to try and tell it like it is , because empty sycophantic praise is as useful to a musician as a sunroof on a BMX

No doubt this will ruffle a few feathers. I feel expected to love it , and to gloss over the fact that its nowhere close to the album it should've been.

I remember Leftfield were gone for 10 years and came back with the absolute monster that is " Rhythm and Stealth " , which still blows me away another 10 years later.

Its still sinking in.

I remember lots of people bitching about the guitars in TCH, and I remember allot of people disliking the ep that came after it, not to mention the odd nosdam remix.
We move on.
Just because its from BoC doesn't mean its instant gold, or even a "pleasurable" listen. And just because its not, doesn't mean its not a good album. Pleasure is hard to define anyway.

I still think it needs to sink in. It took me some time to fully swallow TCH after Geogaddi, after which it became a favorite. My reaction to this new album is very similair and I think when the right time comes along the album will "click", just like TCH did. I still haven't heard the album the way its supposed to, and thats ok!

Also, I think this album will be a lot more meaningful in the future, when global shit has seriously hit the fan.

Also also, this album will be most meaningful when Bruce Willis finds it in a post-apocalyptic world.

Tomorrow's Harvest stands well on it's own. For some, it could appear samey (and I can see why) - though a deeper exploration of a particular sound has worked well for them here. What you hear is something really expansive - it's very visual music. It'll be interested to see where they go next.

even though the album has a strong looping quality. it does seem to have a lot to "listen in" to.

for example. some of the tracks have basslines and such, which dont really sound like instruments, i cant remember which track, but i remember the bass line sounding more like the grumblings of a giant bomb going off. which made me think, are a lot of the noises and effects on this album actually cuts and manipulations to audio of other things. meaning, rather than hearing drums or a drum machine, it might actually be other pieces of audio manipulated to sound like the tapping of drums.

I also get a feeling most people don't like it because they don't "get" it at all.

I'm holding my judgment for at least a year as I know I can be a really both Snobby McSmellmyownfarts and Idiot Fartheadson when it comes to music, especially really GOOD music. Don't judge me as theres a good chance you are too.

Still hate Causeway but love the rest. It's definitely not my favorite release and I don't like most of the interlude stuff too much but I think the actual songs on it are really well done. I think this is what they wanted to make and are happy with it, and whether I or anyone else likes it fuck it, the brothers should make whatever they want.

I wonder if more than usual this is one of those albums "about" music that you need to be dialled into the references to really "get"? I grew up on Carpenter-scored VHS films so it's an immediate first-listen thing to say "OK, so this is the soundtrack to a non-existant 70s apocalypse film, I get it". But other people I know, even the ones that got their other albums, kind of get lost on the harsh staccatto synths, the repetetive arps, and I guess without hearing what they're riffing on it must sound really different.

I see these comparisons to John Carpenter's soundtracks all the time and I love the shit out of TH it's quickly becoming my favourite boc album next to Geo. Which OSTs of his, or anyone else from around that time would you recommend I listen to if I want to hear something similar to TH?

i was reading about geogaddi, and saw that upon its release. a lot of reviewers and fans of boc, found that geogaddi wasnt too far of a branch out from mhtrtc. leaving some people wondering if boc could expand their sound. they then went on to release the campfire headphase, which was the biggest departure from their original sound. and now they have released tomorrows harvest which i believe to be a somewhat cross between mhtrtc and geogaddi

now i know its only been a few months since tomorrows harvest was released. and i understand that boc have stated that they try not to create music for others liking, but their own.. but something tells me that whenever boc decide to drop another album on us. it will be an exploration of completely new territory. i cant picture them making another electronic sounding album.

Who knows what they have up their sleeves. Like all things it's the will to do things, and having the time. They may have further unheard material they may release. I think it's most likely it will be more like TCH and utilise more guitars and keyboards but on the dark tip. They may have an offer and chance to compose a soundtrack to a film.

Whatever form it takes or concept followed be it more electronic, instrument based or a bit of both I'm sure the brothers won't disappoint.
