is it just me or has IDM gone to the dogs? all the once untouchable figureheads (in my opinion) have fallen, Squarepusher, Plaid, Autechre, even BoC though not the extent of the former 3.
And new IDM artists which seemed to have taken their place aren't doing anything interesting or really good. At all. A lot of flashy boring production with go nowhere melodies. Nothing's exciting any more.
That's why my end of year lists have moved further and further from electronic, the music that I used to thrive on is now uninteresting and bleh.
Bring on the juke, footwork and wonky genres imo, IDM is dead.
well said , and I've had the same opinion for a few years now.
If IDM stands for intelligent dance music , I find that a lot of what is labelled as IDM is neither intelligent , danceable , nor is it inherently musical , in any real worthwhile way.
I hate it when people without a musical bone in their body try to disguise this fact by waffling about " exploring the relationship between two notes and the fundamentals of dissonance...blah blah blah....invented our own programming language to define the causality of relative intonation....blah blah blah....." , and their music empty , sterile , and dull , without any point , or any kinda story.

Oasis , and anything to do with either liam or neil gallagher.I don't understand how that arrogance can appeal to people , and their songs are nothing outstanding. They only got to where they are because of Liams arrogance , but in actual fact , they suck bigtime.
