I was a little disappointed with Moonrise Kingdom (yet I loved Darjeeling Limited which a lot of people hated) but I will probably always go see all his movies. He's just such a master of his aesthetics, everything always looks so damn good, great soundtracks and costumes and sets.

I don't know if I'll ever love another one of his movies as much as I love Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums though, I can't put a finger on what the other movies are lacking in my opinion. I wonder if it has anything to do with Owen Wilson not writing with him anymore.

I liked Moonrise a lot, but yeah, it wasn't his best. Fantastic Mr Fox and Moonrise seemed to be going for a more mainstream audience than before (imo) which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there was a certain 'something' missing from them. I think Darjeeling Limited is one of his best and kinda went over peoples heads as to what it was really about. The whole Three Wise Monkeys analogy/metaphor is brilliant. I wasn't too keen on it first watch but with repeated viewings, the more I saw in it, the more I loved it.

There are so many beautiful little details in all of his films from Rushmore onwards, there nearly all perfectly crafted.

I like that he uses a load of the same actors in his films, they're part of what makes a Wes Anderson film a Wes Anderson film for me, and it's a thing not many directors do anymore. I'll watch Bill Murray in anything and Ralph Fiennes looks like he'll be great in the lead role.

8 feature films in 20 years isn't exactly making as many films as he possibly can imo.

You read it exactly right, its both praise as it is criticism. I really really loved Aquatic and I loved the one with the stop-motion animal foxes, and I appreciate most of his other movies, yet something really bugged me about Moonrise. The trailer was amazing and it really got my heart filled with joy and ecstasy, but the picture I eventually got was pretty disappointing. The trailer for this new film...reminded me allot of it. Even the fight-club guy probably starts its pursuit at the exact same second.

If you ask me, he should focus on films with Bill Murray as a main character.
Or he should go polar express with bill and have him play every character in the movie.

Also, if I want to see Bill Murray I'd rather watch 'What About Bob?" again, then see a new Wes film

...unless he is the main character. I didn't know he was in this (yes I did, its a wes anderson film), cause I blinked at the wrong times during the trailer.

Bill Murray is seriously such an amazing actor. He can be the funniest guy ever, but he can really tear your heart out too. I love the scene in Rushmore when Max introduces him to his father at the barber shop and you see him realize that Max lied about him being a brain surgeon, and the look in his eyes is so perfect. He's the master of subtlety.

Someday I need to make a reel of all my favorite Bill Murray/Wes Anderson moments. He's great in pretty much everything, but I think WA really pulls some really amazing moments out of him.

Lost in Translation is such a good movie, yet everyone I know hates it. I don't get it. Everyone seems to just need entertained these days.

just coming in to give my two cents on the previous Wes Anderson topic;

Life Aquatic was extremely poor compared to his other work. The plotlines were all over the plot and it was too ambitious to really have all the characters, the stories and still be completely cohesive.

Moonrise Kingdom was great, and so was Mr Fox, but his best was The Royal Tenanbaums. With that film everything was on, the large cast of characters worked, the ambition was there but it felt natural within the confines of the story, and Wes' aesthetic didn't feel forced.

also Hendrik Wes is a particular kind of film maker, there are film makers with styles which are noticeable so when they reuse them you can see it. It's like Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson or Woody Allen. I'd much rather have more Wes Anderson's and Coen Brothers than all of these faceless directors who make everything look like a film which was focus grouped to the nines.
