Jon Hopkins

Post by BrandNewRetro »

Anyone checked this guy out yet? He's got an album due out early 2009 called 'Insides'. From what I've heard of it so far it sounds really fantastic, I particularly love the track 'Vessel', which can be found on his MySpace page:

http://www.myspace.com/jonhopkins

His use of melody is wonderful, definite hints of Plaid about it. Check it out 8)

" Vessel" is indeed a very nice track.

I've heard of Jon Hopkins before. He is somewhat related to Digitonal. Same label if I'm not mistaken.

His two first albums are downtempo lushness as well:

Opalescent http://www.discogs.com/release/438749

and

Contact Note: http://www.discogs.com/release/458958

If you like lush downtempo music, you should checkout Jon Hopkin's work.

I'm looking forward to his new release. Thanks for the heads up!

Hmm I don't usually care at all for ambient stuff but I check this dude out and it's very enjoyable. Real good to read the newspaper to in the morning and a nice pair of headphones...

Thanks to Weekend Cigarette Smoker for the heads up (before your thread got locked!). :D

Had missed this the first time and it's lovely. Cheers.

Yeah, didn't realise that there was already a thread going on him. Excellent album that seems like a keeper.

I've mainly been listening to 'Light Through The Veins' for the past few months. Wonderful track. Downloading the final release now and look forward to seeing what's changed

I've been listening to Jon Hopkins/ King Creosote album (Diamond Mine) a lot recently. Didn't like it at all at first, but really like it now.

The new album dropped on my desk this morning and it's great. There's some really thumping beats with basslines that'd rip through you on a big sound system, along with the usual delicate, often beautiful piano. Recommended.

That's a fecking great album. Bubble has to be the most beautiful tune I've heard in years. When those pads and harmonies kick in - oh my word!!!

Finally got around to listening to Immunity, and its simply gorgeous! One of my AOTY's for sure. Also the vinyl pressing is immaculate! Very nicely cut, with a heavy and thick 180g of virgin vinyl. These records are SILENT. Very pleased and definitely recommended
