The whole point of BoC is to give you a surreal experience without the need of drugs.

The music is good enough as it is, but everyone is entitled to their opinion so.....

I don't think that is "the whole point" of Boards Of Canada.

The brothers themselves used acid quite extensively judging from the interviews.. their music also has many sounds hidden in them that you probably won't notice in a sober state. their way of nostalgic/psychedelic sounds fit LSD very well too..
in my opinion, this music can be used sober but also during the high of LSD, it significantly enhances the experience for me.

I have only taken acid once, and it was an incredible experience and something I learned a lot from - and got a lot out of. I listened to Boards during a few moments in the heavy centre of my trip; but only the track 'Olsen' as this track has always got through to me in special ways and I was using it, at times, to kind-of establish or re-establish a certain headspace.

...THEN... many hours into the trip, as the sun was rising, "Echus" was playing...

...through the sun. The sun was playing "Echus". It was incredible.

Then even more hours later (by now maybe 18hrs after dropping) I was still riding certain waves in and out of LSD-headspace, very calm, very collected, and almost at the 'apex' of what became, for me, the kind-of learning/epiphany moment that brought a sense of cohesion to the whole trip, I listened to TCH and IABPOITC, and I think a little bit of Hi Scores. This was a really nice way to mellow in the end of thought/trip.

This experience was about a week after the first TH-era vinyl was discovered in that record store.

Very special (and the best parts/significance are something I keep just for me, in notes. Maybe to share one day; but - more likely - to manifest in other aspects of my own personal output/interactions in future (...erm... if that doesn't sound too hippy, lol).

BoC, and most music on acid never really did it for me. I was always too distracted and wondering round the country side tbf.
Now BoC on DMT, that's whole different story. Pete Standing Alone fueled one experience and visuals for me, but most BoC songs are just a little short for a DMT journey imo. I recommend some Neu! (Hallo Gallo) or some Can (Halleluwah).

But yeah I agree, you dont really need drugs to experience/enjoy good music. All music is innately psychedelic anyways.

Errp. Not all. The sub-conscious is always ticking over. In my experience of smoking DMT over the years, both listening to music and not, I've always found the initial stages to be much more intense when music has been playing and the visuals more intense/vibrant. The Terence McKenna method is also amazing, don't get me wrong, but everyone's different I suppose

Michael Phelps showed me that drugs are for winners. Sure, he lost some sponsors for it but he showed the world you can take some bong rips every once and a while and still be the most decorated Olympian of all time!

BoC is simply incredible without psychedelics obviously. But with is another thing completely in my opinion! Thing with LSD (and other psychedelics) is that it increases the perception of the sound completely. You notice every detail in a song because your focus is so high. It's much easier to separate a certain sound, if that makes any sense.

BoC is so detailed and often layered that it's almost as if both are made for eachother. Drop some acid, lay back and let the music & closed eye visuals do the rest

Also on mescaline I literally cried once when I listened to Amo Bishop Roden. Pure bliss!

I really recommend trying psychedelics to everyone. I understand some people dislike the idea but believe me, with the right mindset it will blow you away. It's an amazing experience/journey especially combined with music. It's even possible to use them as a tool to live a better/fuller life.
