The first three generations are probably my favorite video games of all time. Never really got into the newer ones though. Part of the reason might be that some of the Pokemon look like that now:

1. GEN 3
2. GEN 2
3. GEN 4 (heartgold and soulsilver are amazing)
4. GEN 1
5. GEN 6

Just started playing Platinum the other day and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised.
Although the first two generations are the ones that get me most nostalgic I think I'd agree about Gen 3 being the best. Best story, soundtrack, legendaries and in my opinion also graphics of all Pokemon games. (Not a fan of the whole 3d thing.)

Yeah platinum is very good. Giratina is one of my favourite pokemon

Is it just me or is this one a trillion times easier than all the other ones? I've gone through most of the gyms using a single pokemon and no healing.

I mean their all pretty easy if you use your starter pokemon or the first gen pokemon you get from one of the professors, i remember going through Fire Red with nothing but a charizard (Up until the Elite 4) What pokemon did you use for most of the game?

I just got that actually off Ebay for $140, barley used. Nice too cause even if you get it used, you can still download Zelda: A Link Between Two Worlds (Which is slowly become my favorite over Ocarina of Time)
