bags, backpacks, whatever

I carry a messenger bag everywhere. It generally contains a book or two, my notebook, my microcassette recorder and whatever else I need for what I'm doing that day/night. I've also been stocking up on buttons and patches for customization; this is one of my favorites.

I'm guessing I'm not the only Twoismer who carries a bag. Assuming there are others, do you prefer a messenger bag, backpack, satchel, ... and what do typically you carry in it?

Have always rocked a backpack with both straps on (from my skateboarding days). They're much better for your spine (even weight distribution across both shoulders) and hands-free. Usually have a Jansport but currently have a Carhartt one which is proper comfy and has loads of pockets and straps on it for stuff.

I always carry whatever book I'm currently reading, a sketch/notebook, pencils/pens, travel toothbrush (you never know where you're gonna wake up haha!) , waterproof over-layers (UK weather is pissy) and whatever bits and pieces I need that day. I don't leave home without it.

...just this reason. I've been staying over with friends more often lately, and it might be a nice change from the messenger bag (which does get awfully heavy when it's full!). I also need to figure out how to roll up my sleeping bag...

If I take a bag out for the day or an overnight stay, I've got a little blue Eastpak satchel-type one that I bought in Hong Kong (from one of the coolest clothes shops ever - I'm not keen on shopping, but could have bought the whole place).

I've also got a messenger-style Adidas one which I loved: it was ideal size for weekends away, but I'm sure I managed to cram a week's holiday gear into it before. Sadly, that bag got peed on by a cat, and is in a carrier bag in a cupboard awaiting a wash. That is/was one versatile bag. Also in the 10+ years I've had it, I've never seen another one.

I have a couple of messenger bags. Someday I wish to get a nice leather satchel.

But the one that gets most use is a Quicksilver backpack. In it, I typically have hat and gloves, lunch (if I'm going to work), pens, & wallet.
