The Beach at Redpoint - The thread it deserves

I'm not accusing them of anything though. Like I already said earlier it's irrelevant whether something sounds "basic". All that matters is how sounds are put to use in composition. Just wanted to point out that I don't think the synth sound is a unique texture that can't be found elsewhere.

Yeah, the word "accuse" was harsh. I meant to say that the more traditional sounds will stick out a lot more to people who are sensitive to that kind of thing. There are people out there in the wilderness who will go batshit insane over anything they personally consider "mediocre", but that doesn't make them the rule. Attitudes vary.

i feel as though the beach at redpoint could fit into tomorrows harvest. if palace posy wasnt there, and the beach at redpoint was there instead, it seems like it would make a fit, and gap the album nicely.


i think the main reason it would fit on tomorows harvest is because the beach at redpoint has always given me the visuals of a deserted beach and the vibe of missiles going off. which seems to fit the whole tomorrows harvest vibe.

I was going for a walk and decided to spin a Geogaddi, and the thing that took my attention about TBARP was those flutes, sound like seabirds, but in a very strange distorted way. Imagine if you'r on the beach, wind blowing in your face and screaming seagulls around you.

Just adding to the choir here but I have to say this is hands down one of my favorite BoC tracks, if not my favorite altogether.

The people who say the intro is cheesy is because they're jealous of the sound. I've been making electronic music for the better part of 6/7 years now and I'll probably keep on making tracks until I can no longer hear anything, but I'm still pretty sure I'll never be able to forge a single sound as distinctive and powerful as the intro chord on The Beach At Redpoint.

This thing is like a giant galaxy-sized monolith plowing towards you at mach-3, even as I know the track by heart, and I know exactly when the sound is coming in, after the water sounds play for a couple of seconds, once it hits, I have shivers running a marathon up and down my spine every single time, and pretty much for the whole track too. It's like the "drop" in Dayvan Cowboy, same kind of sensation of a huge, swooping sound, of pure almost-solid matter flowing out of the speakers

And the vocals only add to that sensation.

Fucking amazing track. And as said before, it needs Opening the Mouth to function as a proper track for me, it's like Bocuma/Roygbiv, it works as a tandem and not otherwise.

Edit : actually I realize just thinking about it while trying to describe the sound gives me shivers too... Yeah that's how powerful that thing is.

exactly what I thought. for me it could definitely replace Split Your Infinities. similar vibe with the strings synth throughout and muddled voices.

I love the track, it is one of my favourites. The flaut sounds somehow dark, dry and oriental. It sounds like a snake coming out from the basket of a snake charmer while the snake sensually dances to the flaut. It is hypnotizing.

Agreed! one the best song from their catalogue.
So psychedelic, so pagan, so organic. It's like all spinning forces of nature in a track.
Absolute essential!!!
P.S: I do not think the intro's cheesy, it's actually quite unique according to BoC's style. For me the flute is Pan.

This has always remained one of my top Boards tunes. Not many tracks come close to the deeply zonal realm this song induces. So very psychedelic and spiritual. Love the rhythms and drones which have a very Asian / possibly Oriental feel, the snake charmer comparison is spot on.

I've honestly never considered any part of this track cheesy and I can only wonder why it evokes that feeling for a relatively large number of people. Perhaps people feel it leans a little more towards psytrance-y type music (which is often very cheesy) in sound? I don't know. It still has the quintessential Boards sound at it's heart.

This is definitely one of my favorite tunes. I hear so many different drum elements. I hear snares and toms upside down. I don't know, I could be wrong but I feel like that tune is primarily all about drums. I always seem to notice a new drum element when I hear it with good headphones.
