Yeah I can hear what sounds like a staticy radio voice but I can't even tell if it's reversed or not. So many sounds in this song. What a beautiful nightmare this song is. I wish I could hear it on really really good studio headphones.
All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but I think this might be the first Boards of Canada song to utilize the Locrian mode. It occurs in the section when the first bass note kicks in with that melody atop it playing the diminished fifth, minor second, minor sixth and finally the root which outlines Locrian. Props BoC!

Locrian mode... I had to google this and I just want to say "Thank you!" for highlighting this to a musical numpty! It makes a lot of sense when it's laid in front of youadecentman wrote:Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but I think this might be the first Boards of Canada song to utilize the Locrian mode. Yes, I also noticed this being one of the most harmonically out-there things they've done.adecentman wrote:Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but I think this might be the first Boards of Canada song to utilize the Locrian mode. Though, while it does fit in Locrian like you said, that's not how I was looking at it. I was seeing it more as just "chromatic" and dissonant. Four notes doesn't quite define a mode. Yes, there is no other mode of the major scale that would have those notes, but we don't know whether the third "would have" been minor or major, for example. It's still possible they were thinking Locrian but I'd be inclined to guess that's not how they came about it.
Either way, it's so incredibly dark. I like it a lot and was honestly disappointed not to hear anything else like it in the album. I feel like that could be a really cool new sound for them to explore. Familiar synth territory but with bizarre, cold and dissonant harmony.

listen carefully to the radio noise coming out from left channel. don't listen to it at full volume, because the voice will propably melt with song. hope you will find it, cause I'm starting to feel like a weirdo. (hearing voices and stuff, lol). Ah, and if you focus on radio noises for all the song long there's something like "Twenty" (female voice, much more before the scream). smoke may be helpful.
ah, and don't even try if you have no CD and good earphones/headphones. good luck guys

there is a lot going on in the left channel in the last few seconds. if you get away from the rumble in the right, you can more easily hear a few things. the radio squeals return before a bit of synth like that on oirectine appears around 2:54 followed by a very garbled voice in the last two seconds. it's about as distorted as the one in pete standing alone.

I took the last 3 seconds or so, eliminated the right channel and centered the left, normalized the signal to bring it up in level, and then eqed out the low end.
without eq:
I still hear (kinda whispered)"We can make it" (com)"Ok" "Roger" "Roger that"
"Ok" might be "Take it"

Just focus on left channel.

I watch Baby Einstein videos with my daughter all the time. How much do I love the opening chords of this one!
