TH promotional campaign - not quite a year on...

it would be funny to have some kind of RSD teaser LP that has the complete versions of Duffy, Wouldn't You Like to Be Free? and Circle on it.

Minds would be blown, and this is how the early material release should be announced if it ever is. You might say that it's repeating themselves, but this time, the feeling of mystery would be replaced with one of certainty of what's coming.

Now that I've said it, they'll never use that idea!

They should use a literal easter egg hunt for the early works release, some box set far in the Scottish highlands, though I could see that getting kinda vicious haha. If it happens though, shotgun a lift in someones Bocmobile

There are a few unanswered questions that shall probably remain so. I think we'd had the answers by now. The last login site has had many of us scratching our heads. It's had some of us thinking just maybe that there was something to solve which would result in something really cool being revealed. Maybe even a hidden track or two to reward us for our research.

I'm thinking it's probably all been just been a wild goose chase at best caused by a whole lot of wishful thinking due to the mystery that surrounded the lead up to the release and the fallout after.

Tomorrow's Harvest just isn't going to be enough for some.. I guess most of us just want to know exactly when we'll be getting our next BOC fix from the Sanderson brothers?

Strangely enough, I'm a lot hungrier for more BoC than I was after the TCH LP/EP.

Recently I find myself listening to TH a lot more than I was even a couple of months ago. I loved it right away but it has so many bits that keep me coming back.

With TCH, I kept up on things around here as a lurker here and there, but life changes (meeting my wife, getting married, stuff like that) and not being too impressed with the album made it a little easier to chalk up my love for BoC, the psychedelic experience, all that sort of thing, as things that belonged to my 20s. I also went out of my way to avoid some of the other artists they've inspired during those lean years too, I wanted TH (whatever it was going to turn out to be) to feel fresh and special when it finally arrived.

It felt nice to take a break, but I'd really like them to finally share some work from the vaults with us. I'd definitely choose an official taste of that over the customary EP that we seem to get, but I will take anything right now!

I think the phrase my parents used to use was: 'You'll get what you're given pal'.

Didn't they talk about the Old Tunes being some kind of nest egg for their kids just last year? That to me says we'll get our mucky paws on them properly at some point, but I'm not holding my breath just yet.

I think you're probably right about that. I wouldn't be surprised if all that stuff ends up putting their kids through university!

Which brings us on to the question: Do BoC work for a living? or do they live off royalties.. I can imagine now they do. Maybe not around MHTRTC/Geogaddi era though. Must be so cool to live of the thing you started out with your brother as a project all those years ago. I bet they never could imagine having a publicity campaign like the one they just had, way back in the day...

In the past year and a half I've had a little insight into the sorts of fees certain levels of artists are paid, and I'm certain they've probably been living off of their music for a while, definitely since Dayvan Cowboy - since it would be reeling in royalties from being used on everything, everywhere. But before that... not sure, more than likely though.

With things like the Kid For Today on the BMW advert, countless uses of Dayvan Cowboy on TV and not to mention their massive album sales - which compared to Beyonce or something isn't much, but anything compared to someone like Beyonce isn't much. To live off of all of the above in a studio in the middle of a load of hills, (taking a leap here, but I always guessed a property in such an obscure location could've been inherited by the brothers.) I struggle to imagine how they wouldn't be living off of it.

Not to mention their willingness to turn down festival slots year after year... for someone like BOC you're looking at easily £100,000+ for one festival slot, also given their live show abstinence they've probably got fees triple that coming in, all of which are getting turned down.

BoC ruined my vacation and still haven't bought me a cup of coffee. <-- This is forever an ongoing inside joke amongst myself, my boyfriend, some friends, and I occasionally still Tweet the boys asking me when we're gonna meet at a cafe for a damn good cup 'o joe. Their treat.

I scrambled back to my hotel room a few times to update the 2020k blog post. That was a fun time!

Mexicola, I was ready to drive the entire way across the state when someone pinpointed that one of those BoC vinyl might be stashed by some random lake in Lebanon, PA. Five hours! Thankfully it was debunked..I had my shoes on and everything.

It's tough to say - if they inherited money, they've used it for good and it's allowed them to conduct their professional career they've wanted to, in terms of letting them play live and release music when it's felt right to them and not because they need the money. If not, they seem to live simple lives that probably don't require a lot of resources.

I think it's possible to have money and do things "right" - one of my favorite American microbreweries is Firestone Walker, who got their startup money because one of the co-founders was from the Firestone tire company, and their beer is AMAZING. For every burned out trust fund party kid, there's someone who chooses to do good things with the opportunities afforded them.

Balerno is for rich kids aye, I think BoC were what 20, 22 when they released MHTRTC, and I doubt they got all that vintage synth gear on student wages. Interesting post Ryan.

BoC were definitely older than that when MHTRTC came out. Late 20s I think.

It's also worth remembering that vintage analogue synths were ridiculously cheap in the '90s. I've never got the feeling that anything in their studio is necessarily big or expensive. Even the "secret weapon" is likely something they picked up for almost nothing. Nobody wanted this stuff back then.

Kinda interesting how their absence in the media has perpetuated interest and only added to their attraction for many fans. Goes to show, if you're decent enough, over time most people will do the promo work for you. Radiohead did it with Kid A and we all know how revered that album is now. Warp must be well aware of that, and certainly be happy it works well. I imagine when this Tomorrows Harvest campaign was thrown on the table, either Warp or BoC were surprised it actually went ahead. Its almost like the absence they had for all that time necessitated a big promo statement like the one they just done. I guess the proliferation of the internet and niche music publications have also helped spread the brothers fan base, and the time which elapsed between the last two albums probably accumulated hundreds of thousands of fans for them.

True. Was the whole thing about the secret weapon not that they bought it for a quid? And they were 25 and 27, my bad.

I still say that a secret 12" with the complete versions of Duffy/Wouldn't You Like to Be Free?/Circle to announce a reissue campaign would be amazing.

It might sound like they are repeating themselves with another RSD gag, but the difference is that unlike last year, it would make their near future intentions very clear whereas they were very murky last time.

It'll never happen though!

Just re-read the 2020k timeline and watched all the lead up videos/listened to the audio, etc...now I'm watching Tonx's ustream video - I'm STILL getting chills over this...it was such an amazing thing to experience!

When you go through something like this, and it's so enjoyable...you just want to devour it over and over!

I certainly hope there is more, but damn, what a ride it was!
