Scans of the Phoenix Festival 1997 advert.
I found someone selling this on Ebay. And I haven't seen any scans around, so I thought I'd post them up! Look at that lineup! Reminds me of Coachella's amazing 1999 lineup. Now if we can only find audio/video somewhere!

There is a chance this was maybe a tent or something where this music was played by a DJ maybe? Or a DJ set from the band? Either way, great find!

Amazing find. I think I remember Autechre talking about this show when they did the WATMM posts, something about getting drunk and trying to tackle Mike Paradinas into the mud.
RDJ, Boc, Squarepusher, Autechre, and Mu-ziq (not to mention the many others) all at one festival? Why can't this happen again?

Don't get me started. I went to the Phoenix Fest in 97, primarily for Bowie & Orbital. It's easy to look back in hindsight, but of course I'd never heard of them.
I do have the programme hiding around somewhere and I'll dig it out when I get a chance and do a scan.

Yeah, i remember seeing Mogwai in the very early days - band spent the whole gig facing away from the audience, head down just totally into it, remember being amazed anyone could create such a sound in some little venueIanRedpoint wrote:So many bands further down the bill (and poster) that were all on the cusp of greatness. Pretty much the entire Warp roster on there as well as bands like Mogwai (who were stunning live from the beginning).

Dude, you say you was living about "20" away from the place at that time, surely it wasn't a certain town beginning with R and ending with H aka butt hole of the earth?Mexicola wrote:Are you my evil-twin?!?vballs wrote:Oh man I didn't realise the line up was that good. I lived less than 15 miles from that festival site. God damn it, why in 1997 was I only into grunge music and such like lol
