XYZ (33 RPM)
a few weeks back i heard 747 played at 45 rates per minute, for the first time. to say the least i was pretty blown away, couldnt believe how many instruments were locked up in that track, just waiting to be unlocked.
well, i was just looking around on youtube, and found xyz, slowed down to 33 rpm. after hearing the track slowed down, i am pretty sure this has to be the way the track is meant to be heard. it makes the track sound much more relaxing, and much less frantic. the track is a much easier listen at this speed in my opinion. the vocal samples, instrumentation, drumming, and birds chirping all now seem to be at correct speed. you guys be the judge.

listen to the track, there are def. birds chirping after 3 minutes in
with that said. when i was listening to xyz at 33 rpm for the first time yesterday. i noticed that about midway through the track, at about every 10 second interval, you can hear what sounds like a horrified scream. its not just my mind playing tricks on me either, give it a listen. one example is between the 5:18-5:19 mark

Haha, I definitely hear that scream at 5:18. Neat. Sounds like the movie PsychoFireal420 wrote:re-phaelam-ed wrote:doesn't sound like a bird....so much as someone screaming.

There was me this afternoon grabbing my peel sessions cd and thinking for some reason it was on there and intended to play it at 33 rpm on one of my CDJs and take it all in for 2 reasons.. It sounded dope slower and secondly I wanted to make out what species of bird they had used this time. DOH!!Hitecherous wrote:Which album is this off? I thought XYZ wasn't released on the Peel Session album.
Anybody got a digital rip they would kindly provide me with a link?

Peel was known for playing records at the wrong speed haha, but yeah this was recorded at BBC with the band talking beforehand. Did they mention something about it being their fastest yet (so maybe they did notch up the speed a bit from what was originally intended) and did we ever figure why it was left off the peel sessions....there was mention of that tangerine dream sample. Perhaps that was it?
Indeed they did say that, in between congratulating him on his OBE and saying the the rumours about them being recluses hiding away in the Highlands was somewaht exaggerated. They end the interview saying they're off down the pub, which always endears them to me
For those who've never heard it, it's an interesting few minutes.
