Whats your favorite game music...

Post by Cupz »

I was hitting some tunes on my keyboard when suddenly, something sounded extremely familiar.I kept playing that single tune untill I realized it was from a game called "Skyroads" witch was something I played non-stop as a kid.So I looked the game up (its abandonware) and played it again. Sweeeeet nostalgia.
But anyroad, the music still gives me the chills although its basic midi (I believe).

I got a bunch of old games like that: Mega Man 2 and 3, Metroid, Super Metroid, etc. Nowadays I really like the music from Half-Life 2. I've been searching like mad to find the complete soundtrack to that game.

I remember seeing the full HL2 soundtrack on one of those Russian MP3 sites, but last time I checked, they were all shut down. It had like 33 tracks on it or something, IIRC.

Ya, I've been able to find the entire "cd soundtrack" (43 tracks) that came with some special edition of the game. But there's another 8 tracks, assumedly on mp3, that are supposedly out there.

I'm a big fan of Amon Tobin's score for Splinter Cell, if you haven't checked that out (which is also discussed in another thread).

Three that I listen to the most:

Chrono Cross
Vib Ribbon
Katamari Damacy

The score for "Chrono Cross" is absolutely gorgeous. Specifically the track "Dreams of the Shore Near Another World", which reminds me of a breakdown in an Ochre track (either Infotain or REM).

I really liked the music to Interstate 76, if any of ya'll remember that one.

Also, the theme song to the old school "Civilization" just begs to be done by a real orchestra. That's a good tune.

Rise of the Triad had cool music.

The classic Quake soundtrack.

I didn't (and don't) play console games that much...

Silent Hill is at the top of my list.

I also love the stuff from Jet Grind Radio and Jet Set Radio Future.

Battle Garegga and Radiant Silvergun have glorious soundtracks... Battle Garegga has pretty much an IDM soundrack at times.
I make music as Sweguno.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island has a great soundtrack, as does Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Katamari Damacy has some insanely catchy songs. Metroid Prime has some great tunes, as did the original Halo.
The original Mario Brothers is the pinnacle of all video game music, though...

All the GTAs have had pretty good soundtracks. Even this most recent Liberty City Stories had a couple really good radio stations, including one that plays a bunch of vocoder-laden Moroder trax. But yeah, it'll be hard to top Vice City's soundtrack, that's for sure. 8)
