Warp Imitation Tracks - My Final Year University Project!

Post by Tomisnever »

Hey guys i know a lot of you are busy, but I'd really appreciate any feedback you may have on my final year project at university.

Basically I'm trying to imitate the sound of Warp Records and their various artist. I have done tracks in the style of;

Boards of Canada
Squarepusher
Bibio
Autechre

None of them are finished yet, but i require feedback that i will implement into the project so PLLLLLEEASEE HEELELPPP MEE :D I really value the opinion of this forum and anything you have say, good or bad, just post below and I'll be forever grateful. And if anyone wants a favour in return just let me know and I'll do what i can!

Dude your Squarepusher track is sick, don't know how much the piano is fitting of his style but it's a really cool piece.
You're gonna carry that weight.

Ha they sound great man, the Squarepusher track is beautiful tho the Autechre track weirdly sounds like Plaid (which is also a bonus) :)

*ae track sounds too clean/dancy to be ae, needs something dark/glitchy to complement it or something
*melody of boctrak is very nice right out, nice synths but a bit repetitive, too much like dayvan cowboy? use of flange is nice
*idk square or bibio well enough to help w/ those trax
You're knocking on the door I closed today

Out of curiosity, how'd you get the guitar tone for the Bibio track? It's pretty sexy

holy cannolis that 3rd one in, the squarepusher imitation piece is absolutely great. Seriously, mastering and all. You thinking about continuing in a relative direction after all of this, or is this just a one time experiment?

Howso, work in progress?? This stuff is brilliant and sound finished to me! (besides the sudden end)

It totally captures the Warp era in my opinion. All the tracks remind me of every individual artists which they should represent except for the BoC song. I think that one is less original sounding. Perhaps because I've heard a lot of BoC imitations.
You are very talented imo because without actually copying the songs you manage to recreate the atmosphere in a new song.
The first 3 songs could have come off as songs which didn't make the final cut for the album.

You should do more of these. I for one really love the begin era of Warp and this makes me go back in time.

The Autechre one sounds like something from incunabula.

the AE track is definitely based on their very early style so it fits imo.

let us hear the finished versions when you're done!
