My university 'Warp' EP is finished, and need I feedback.

You may remember a while ago I posted that i was working on an EP for my final project inspired by Warp artists, well now it's finished and I need your help in the form of feedback. All you have to do is listen to the EP, even if it's just one track, and answer a few questions.

Okay first off, there are two tracks that seriously impressed me here. The first is at 5 min in, and definitely reminds me of bibio in its summery, upbeat sorta childish pop aesthetic. The second at 15:00, which blows me freakin mind. Did you play the bass part yourself? Cuz damn, that was fucking intricate and cool. Also definitely reminded me of squarepusher.

1. Definitely emulated Bibio and Squarepusher in some respects, and definitely felt inklings of BoC in there.
2. dunno what albums.
3. I don't think too much analogue gear was used, maybe one synth or so, but a lot of it doesn't sound that way to me.
4. Depends on your definition of successful. It does sound a lot like you're emulating many artists, if that was the intention then yes I'd say so.
5. I think you could polish this off a bit more if you had more time, the production sounds a tad bit unfinished. Also though you are trying to emulate different artists, I'm not sure there's as much range as you were going for (I still hear fairly similar undertones in each track)
6. My favorite was the one with the elaborate bass part, I think that's the most coherent. Dunno about least successful.
7. Warp definitely has a sound, but it's not so easy to articulate... intricate? IDM?
8. There are definitely similarities in production, a lot of layered textures and serious attention to detail, pacing, etc.
9. Esoteric to an extent, they're not entirely out there.
10. I think there are definitely an amount of artists trying (perhaps sometimes too hard) to emulate or get the same sound as a lot of warp artists.

[Aesthetics]

Hey Thomas, I really like this project of yours. Warp always have been my favorite label and had a huge influence on my current listening behaviour. I'm not that much of a fan of their current output though.

1. Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, Plaid. All of them have other artists who were influenced in a way. (Tycho, Venetian Snares, The Flashbulb, Ochre, Plat)
2. There are some out there but besides BoC I can't name any from the top of my head.
3. No
4. Yes, very. It totally captures the atmosphere of the Warp label
5. No
6. Bibio and Squarepusher are most succesful and BoC less succesful
7. They really had at the beginning but not sure if it can be called a 'sound'. They had a certain style.
8. Some do but most of them have a very distinguish sound.
9. No
10. I believe that the Warp label had a huge influence about 10 years ago on upcoming artists in that era.

Why don't you upload a playlist with the divided songs? Do you have them anywhere up for download?

I'd love to have an album full of these inspired by songs

1. BoC/Polygon Window, specifically beginning around 1:04. Also some Squarepusher beginning around 20:31.
2. Surfing on the Sine Waves, Hello Everything, Music Has the Right to Children.
3. Yes
4. Yes, enjoyed listening to it.
5. The more acoustic sounding parts around the middle, threw me off just a tad, not saying it didn't sound good, but took me out of the nostalgic vibe i was in from the beginning.
6. 9:49-14-14 & 14.15 - 15:28, As a boC fan, I enjoyed this part the most.

   i can't really tell you if it was successful or not since i am a little foggy on what it was supposed to do

   it's bland lol. tons of people imitate early warp/skam stuff...

   i think the two boc ones were pretty successful

   as much as any other electronic label, not as much as say chain reaktion or ghost box

   it must have been in the 90s/2ks but now it's a little bland

    early warp? def. i think warp just kind of snatches up and coming artists from indie labels now and the sound is less cohesive than it was
