Tomorrow's Harvest - Just Reaping The Fruits Now

Hi, gang!
Long-time fan of BoC, long-time reader of this forum, and first time post.

Question for you:
For any of you, did it take awhile for you to get into "Tomorrow's Harvest"?
I have to admit, it took a long time to gel with me - although I appreciated it.
And only recently did I flip some kind of switch and 'saw' it on its own terms - panoramic, epic, visionary.

I enjoyed it from first listen but it really took psychedelics to allow me to understand it fully. TH is not a normal album by any means and by far the most moving in an "elevated" state.

I took to TH like a duck to water. Strange, as most of their music isn't so instant for me and takes time for it to sink in. This maybe not such a good thing as I find myself already getting a bit bored with TH, I don't think it has the replay value of their first 2 albums.

I still haven't got stoned to it yet, which is something I need to sort out!!

I fell in love with it right away, then only listened to it every couple weeks for awhile, now I'm back to listening to it a couple times per week.

It took me a little while to come around on Jacquard Causeway and Split Your Infinities but now I think the album is all killer, no filler. I don't think anything will ever take away the crown from MHTRTC in my book, but this is the one that comes closest.

To each their own! It's been many years since I dabbled in psychedelics, but ok. I find that BoC are a trip unto themselves.

warphead: Yeah, I didn't take to it right away (unlike you). Strangely, everything before this one clicked instantly - but this was the one that took some time to adjust to.
You wrote, "I don't think it has the replay value of their first 2 albums." Might be true, in so far as this one requires a certain discipline to absorb this huge canvas. I can't adequately define it, but TH feels more 'stretched out' than the previous efforts.

Opothecary: "all killer, no filler" <-- right on. But I feel the same way about the other albums as well.

Anyway, I'm jazzed to be interacting on a forum of fellow enthusiasts of BoC. These guys are artists, straight up.

I loved it the first time I heard it. Fell in love with it on like my 50th or so listen. There is so much to this album. Welcome to the neighborhood.

I loved it from the first listen when they aired it on youtube. I cant possibly count how many times ive listened to it since, I did take a break from it for a while during the winter but now I don't just love it, I really really love it... Its like the gift that keeps giving again and it keeps getting better.

The same thing happened for me with BoC`s previous releases too.

There is no other band that can make music to this effect.

Yeah TH is awesome. I'm realising more and more the distinct place this album occupies in the discography. In many ways, in fact in *most* ways, it doesn't represent to me something 'new' about BoC (even musically). Though there is a maturity in some of the dynamics and performance of subliminals, for sure...

The blasphamous truth is, I still haven't managed to listen to this on a good soundsystem yet! (no room in current digs). That'll be a few months time...

Cold Earth, Palace Posy, and Nothing is Real were the only songs I liked.

Still haven't fully got into it and I don't think I ever will. I would have really preferred it if they went for an apocalypse survivor's memories (kinda like Nothing is Real did), not the apocalypse itself.

It took me a bit to get into it as an installment to their previous work, but I think initially other things about the album were speaking to me. I am a huge fan of soundtrack work by guys like Riz Ortolani and Fabio Frizzi, so the sounds definitely had a place to sit in my mind.

If it helps dude, the theme of the album isnt "apocalyptic" at all. The bros mentioned this in an interview i do beleive. I think the theme is more nhialistic, about the break down of society and maybe the rebuilding of a new one (please correct me if i am wrong)

It's been nearly a year, and I still listen daily. The other day I was driving and had a moment of absolute bliss during Sundown. It happens a lot with that tune. I also feel as if the album ends with the aptly titled Sundown. New Seeds is still one of the only tunes they've ever made that I just don't like and Come to Dust really wore off after a few dozen listens. Semena Mrtvych is great, but not something I can listen to often. 1-14 is fantastic journey. A masterpiece just like all their previous albums

I really don't care about the theme/message/concept.

It's certainly the album that took me the longest to get into.

I fell in love with the marketing campaign, visual aesthetics, and overall mixing and mastering of Tomorrow's Harvest instantly. Those things were all quite beautiful, however, getting into the content of the music itself took me a few listens. I think I encompassed a lot of that feeling in my review (here, though I'm sure everyone here has had a look at it before lol).

Sometimes, when I listen to it, I'm still not quite sure if I'm into it as much as I am the other Boards of Canada records. It's just a difficult record, really, as it takes more of a cinematic approach than a contemporary Electronic sound. It's very score sounding, which isn't bad, especially because the record seemingly tells a story in itself, which is amazingly impressive. But, I need to be in a certain type mood to listen to music like what's on a lot of Tomorrow's Harvest.

I still can't get into this album, anywhere near their others. Wish I could, maybe down the road I will. That's not to say I don't like it or think it's good, but personally I just can't enjoy it anywhere close to the others.

I remember the first time I listened to it i was so weirded out by some of the sounds and structures, and the overall feeling that it gave me. Uritual and Sundown kind of slowed the whole pace down for me, and I couldn't see why they'd put them in there. I was left a bit disappointed without doubt.

After that, I found it pretty difficult to put back on for a while, but I persisted and I have to say that these days I find it such an amazing trip. So visual. I love sticking it on in the afternoon, lying down and letting my sleep weave my mind in and out of the music; it's as close to drugs as I can get without taking drugs, and it's currently the BoC album that I get most out of.

I think it's kind of a shame that its release was surrounded by so much suggestive imagery: deserts, abandoned buildings, stark landscapes with no people, etc. The music does fit in well with all of that, but I found my interpretation of the album was a bit constrained at first because of it.

its taken me this long to just crack the surface of it, I'm still hearing new things and unlocking more mysteries. It's especially nice on mushrooms trips, i was being sowed, then growing and then flowering when i listened to new seeds, anybody else know what I mean with the structure? aha

I have liked it from first listen though, didn't think it was as creepy as some older boc but definitely felt as though i was listening to something cold and dead (in a good way?) but the more I've listen the more alive it sounds than ever
