Lake Dolores 1 Year Later
365 Days ago today, I and a number of other lucky folks were in an abandoned water park being treated to the first listen of Tomorrows Harvest. Thanks BoC! Thanks Warp! Thanks everyone who attended and made it so cool, and thanks to the community who followed what was happening with bated breath! I just wanted to come on here and commemorate the event's anniversary in some way.

right there with you JB!
i cannot listen to the opening seconds of TH without being transported back to that beautiful day in the desert every single time. my mind actually inserts a slight 'wind filter' since thats the first time i ever heard it and how i best remember it. still grateful to have been there. thanks to BOC and to all who were there and just as much to all around the world who there in spirit - twoism.org was on fire that day!

I was there too! I was looking at all of the pics I took that day this past weekend and again today, remembering my drive there from LA with one of my best friends and what a sublime experience it all was. Just that freaky gravelly parking lot alone was a trip! Plus most of the people I met there that afternoon were really kind and cool. I cannot listen to TH without seeing that day as I hear it! The wind, the desolate landscape, the IE in general lol. Off the 15 and down the way from a monastery....boy do M+M know how to pick 'em. Who still thinks they were in the Airstream?!?

it was great buzz following it, the unexpected, the guy with the phone keeping us updated was neat, was very hush hush.
i think many of us were sure the 2 lads would make an appearance from the that trailer truck. hearing the first intro and the surrounding desert hills reminded me of Hills Have Eyes, eerie. would have been great to make that trip. i'd like to live near SF, though i could get lonely for europe eventually.

the lake dolores listening party. as well as the reach for the dead video. both had very strong imagery and connotations of what BOC spoke of in their newer interviews. which is basically, they both became heavily influenced by places that used to be stores, malls, homes, amusement parks etc. and are now long forgotten and have become worn down over time.
i just feel as though boc intentionally set the listening party at a place where the imagery would coincide with the feelings on the record, and all the people attending the listening party would always assimilate the sounds of the music, with the surrounding environment at lake dolores.

Yeah I can't believe that whole build up was a year ago! It was a very exciting time after 8 years of waiting and wondering if they'd ever return. There's no doubt though that TH's masterly promotion imbued my summer 2013 with a strange and otherly kind of atmosphere which I have to admit I'm missing
...what subtlety?

That live stream really was something. Is the guy who made the stream a poster here? I remember when they were going up the hill or something, away from the van, and my palms started getting sweaty because I was CONVINCED they were going to miss something... either that or they were going to find a lost Branch Dividian wandering around or something.

Yep! I was surprised I had service at all and pretty shocked when I later learned just how decent the audio/video quality of my i pad mini's 3G streaming was. I had presumed that everyone was probably watching a pixelly glitchy mess. I still feel kind of bad for letting it run a minute past white cyclosa.2020k wrote:That live stream really was something. I like to think you didn't so much break the rules as bend emtonx wrote:Yep! Thanks on behalf of all of us watching with bleary eyes over on this side of the Atlantic. You made it worth the late night and zombie-like day at work the next morning.
