Just picked up Hyperborea on vinyl while browsing: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51JGEs9wNaL.jpg

Excellent album. I've known about these guys but this is the first time I've heard them.

Any other recommendations?

Hyperborea is such a great album and track too. Phaedra was the first album I listened to from Tangerine Dream which got me into their music. I enjoy their 70's stuff, but their 80's material have also an abundance of gems and great soundtracks too.

Some track's of this soundtrack they done for 'Heartbreakers' and 'The Keep' screams out BoC too. You can hear the impact Tangerine Dream had on the brothers.

Sorry if I've bombarded you with a hefty amount of Tangerine Dream, they have so much music and quality music at that.

Stratosphere, Phaedra, Rubycon, and Force Majeure are my all time favorite TD albums, all of which I own on physical, and it's so worth it...they were truly innovative artists, one of the first to actually use synthesizers and rock elements. Led Zeppelin takes heavy influence from them I hear.

As much as I enjoy their studio albums, this live recording remains one of my favorite pieces of music ever made:

From the windy, minimal sounds, to the hour and a half slow build, this music takes me to a completely different place whenever I listen to it. I don't even know where to begin describing the feeling haha.

Amazing band. They've done it all. If you're into extremely dark ambient, check out the album Zeit.

What kind of fan would I be if I didn't recommend Phaedra, Rubycon, Force Majeure, Exit, White Eagle, Tangram, or even some of their amazing live albums like Ricochet or Logos? A bad fan, that's what!

funny I love their live work too. Also of note is Klaus Schulze. I like quite a lot of his 70's work too.

There is some interesting experimental electronic music of the 70's that would probably really appeal to a lot of people here. Especially youngers who haven't heard it before. I grew up with the tad end of it sometimes broadcast on late night college radio so I was somewhat exposed then to Klaus Schulze, Steve Roach, TG, JM Jarre, Vangelis, Robert Rich (a late comer but squarely in this camp), Ryuichi Sakamoto, Harold Budd, Eno etc. Many of these guys are precursors to New Age which is really an awful genre honestly but initially was where ambient artists primarily found themselves marketed. In the early 80's that wasn't bad but very quickly became grotesque.

Dabble long enough and you end up down the rabbit hole of Daphne Oram which I cannot recommend highly enough. Particularly the Oram Tapes Vol 1.

Entire "virgin years" period of Tangerine Dream (1973-1983) is something that I'd recommend.

Check "Encore" - it's from 1977 tour in US and Canada. Then go for bootlegs from that period, some of them with quite good sound quality, like this one, from Montreal:

And last but not least, if you picked up Hyperborea, check out "Poland" live album from 1983, there are also some video footages from Warsaw concert:

My wife bought me the Risky Business Soundtrack on vinyl. My favorite track by TD has to be Love On A Real Train.

I think that probably has to be their most popular track. It was a pretty successful movie and put Tom Cruise on the map as a sex symbol. (I never thought the movie was that great.. you know it was the first of young man get woman who happen to be prostitute and her friends that are out of his league to do a party to end all parties and gets nailed by the pimp) but a lot of us 13 year olds thought that sex scene on the train was classssay. Kidding. Music was really good though.

Wow, didn't realise that...I assume it must be a cover, otherwise it's pretty blatant. Anyway, it's as good a recommendation for TG as any, 76:14 is one of my favourite albums.
This is a great thread, I've been meaning to investigate TG for a while but had no idea where to start.

Currently listening to Poland for the first time... and loving it. Seems like this album is a capstone of my favorite era of the band.
