See and I absolutely agree with that. My favorite BoC is suited for being enjoyed in nature on some portable listening device on a headful of psychedelics. Old Tunes, MHTRTC and Maxima seem to be best suited for that situation. TCH just didn't ring true to me on that front and TH is just too grim in that respect (great album though)untitled wrote:yeah who knows d_o_p put them there!! did you hear about that forger who did "originals"? the right way to listen to this music is in special places where you can't carry a 10.000$ ultra-audiophile sound system, about this i'm sure. old tunes? on a walkman. with a Y splitter for headphones. or a boombox maybe.Opothecary wrote:When you say that OT sounds "too good" now, you're also hearing sounds that are there you've never heard before - those sounds were there originally, you just never heard them. If they were put there by the people who created it, wasn't the listener meant to hear them all along? What's the "right" way to listen to this music?
The question becomes, when someone cleans up the sound too much or the music is listened to on a high end rig, is the experience ruined by hearing things pushed up front that only our subconscious was meant to pick on? Maybe its meant to be listened to both ways depending on your situation? I can remember so many complaints when Twoism was reissued, that it just sounded too good on CD. Seems like similar backlash here.

most definitively the least amount of cleaning is most preferable. in lack of possible feedback from BoC, the golden rule would be "would they agree?"
can you imagine BoC agreeing to transparent noise reduction? yes.
can you imagine BoC agreeing to stereo widening? in this case "maybe", "probably" and "i don't know" have the same meaning: NO WAY PUT DOWN THAT SCALPEL IF THEY EVER MADE YOU SMILE

i must confess i don't like TCH.
TH i played while biking in a sun-lit city, psychedeliced, heading out from a residential district (15m) through a rusty industrial one (the rest of the album), just to take pictures. it fit well. maybe not perfectly but well.

You prefer the other leaks to this 'remaster' set then?re-phaelam-ed wrote:louder, more bass, less dynamics. Pulling the tape noise out killed it.
listening on grado ps1000 and grado rs1 cans with schitt headphone tube amp. very revealing headphones.

MDG's final statement not enough clarity then? MDG provided Mike & Marcus the flac files and cassette tape scans. Mike & Marcus analysed both and gave their feedback to MDG. MDG relayed us the feedback. Something tells me we can trust the people who actually made the tapes and the music on it.tonx wrote:Would love to see some clarity on this before another thread gets locked.

He did not close the thread. I did. And I wanted it to end with that so everyone could read it as a final statement before it getting pushed away by a ton of followup posts.Opothecary wrote:Additional regrets that this thread just seems to be a continuation of the one that got locked, which wasn't my intention at all. Yeah-- I'm so glad this was nipped in the bud. This last couple of days on here have been a really f*cked up rollercoaster. This whole thing kind-of brought me down, tbh.everythingyoudoisorange wrote:Many thanks!Fredd-E wrote:MDG's final statement not enough clarity then? I guess that puts it to bed then. I'm surprised and a little stunned that it so quickly escalated to the level of waking up the brothers for a forensic take. Reminds me of the anecdote of young Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak crank calling the Vatican and waking up the pope...Fredd-E wrote:MDG's final statement not enough clarity then? preparation for a dive.
Really? Even in the current day and age where now simply isn't fast enough anymore? We are living in the Facebook and Twitter era. Everything is fast. The internet is even more evil nowadays.tonx wrote:I guess that puts it to bed then. Also we try to do our best in moderating this board as good as we can. So when I saw that thread and how it evolved I didn't hesitate in contacting our connection. And then it quickly escalated indeed. With proper legit albeit indirect feedback from Mike an Marcus.

Really is weird picturing them listening to those tracks to make a ruling on them. Hope they're not too annoyed. It's quite a boy-who-cried wolf situation. Each time there's another hoax (though not saying the originator necessarily knew they were fake), it seems like it has to get bigger each time before we get an official statement. Perhaps eventually they won't even bother to tell us in the future--though I guess it was a bit different this time since there was money somewhat involved.
Completely off-topic: look at the very first post in this thread. Notice that "ebay" is a link. That scared me. Thought it was malware on my computer. Not that I don't think the forum should try to have a little income to support the site, but this particular method really looks a lot like malware.

Yeah, I considered asking Robin whether or not he could confirm a sock puppet but it isn't my place and furthermore it doesn't really matter.Opothecary wrote:Joined: 26 Jun 2014'd

Yes, we can. We can all move on.
Personally, while I think it's somewhat of a cop out, let's operate under the assumption that whether or not the tapes are faked, it's true: she had copies of them (new or made of the digital files). She admits that if they were faked it was a long time ago and that if you want to believe/not believe her, you can do as you please. That's sufficient enough. That doesn't inherently go against the position regarding the actual versions of the songs being the same that were circulating around as stated by mdg and others.
I can accept that even if this is all pretty transparent because this sort of behavior isn't healthy for twoism, it never has been healthy for twoism. At the end of the day, there's just another version floating around - make of it what you will.
I want to forget it ever happened so I can distance the relation to cancer from it. Let it be the end, please.
...again:

I split AFOT into separate track files. Below that are the CUEs.

The timings on each track were not the same as any other copy I own.

Anyways thanks, this will make side by side comparisons easier. Not to conclude anything but as references of what doesn't/doesn't sound better if I do attempt making my own "remastered" Old Tunes.
Off-topic: why so many new users centered around THIS thing about Old Tunes?
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

Quoted six times for truth. I have no idea why. Why is this so true yet complete bullshit at the same time? There's like this palpable layer of "what the fuck" you feel as a BoC fan or something.cbm wrote:It's hard being a Boards of Canada fan.
