Once Doors_Of_Perception sent me the tapes a few months ago I contacted mdg right away. With only the knowledge of the way how the tapes got there and the cover handwriting, mdg debunked it right away. He didn't even needed to hear the audio.

Now let's fast forward to the moment Doors_Of_Perception made a topic and combined it with asking money. Fredd-E contacted mdg about the issue and to be 100% sure the tapes got analyzed.

Believe what you want but you won't get more clarity than what already has been said.
WOW! so let me clarify this: twoism is "in contact" with mdg and that was "verified" by a marketing campaign?

did i ever say anything about mdg not being affiliated with BOC? or twoism? and why the heck should i care about mdg (or some marketing campaign) if i have been listening to BOC for 10 years? please, tell me, how? i'm too stupid to see the connection :(

mdg debunked something without even checking it's contents? wow, very professional!

i won't waste more time on this. it's sad. please everybody reading this, use your head, don't believe everything you are told.

asking for "more clarity" from a verified "psychic debunker" is like... you find a fit simile ;)

MDG is, as I said, the closest thing to BoC's voice we have. It's better and easier to just accept what he says as truth for the time being. Put yourself in his/their position. Would you rather just tell people it's fake rather than have all this commotion and arguments over it? And please don't act like it's at all a malicious thing to do.

Disregard the last sentence, I know what's in their head, trust me when I say you should listen to MDG and for heaven's sake DON'T LOOK AT THE FACTS. Also, don't be a hater! Music is trivial in that it's not worth getting this wound up over.
And think about this, why would MDG need to make anything up now? Telling people the music is fake is a good option for BoC, yes, I mean, just look at the confirmed fake stuff since then, it's basically forgotten about. For whatever reasons BoC probably would rather that we weren't listening to it, and we should respect that. Of course, it is out there, and we will listen to it, but we must always remember the band's stance on it.
And yes, it is the more comfortable position, as it's the only one wherein the source has any real depth towards it. As I said, there's no reason for him to make up the fact that these are fake cassette rips.

i fully 100% emphatise with this persons family circumstances and I hope things get better for them.

i fully understand also that its not legal for someone to bootleg an artists work for money in return regardless
if its from a legit source or not. It is not their work to sell, perhaps create something yourself, or do something in return
like climb Mt Everest, sponsorship etc.

There are other ways to raise funds to support people in need but not this way.

Now, on the other hand, I personally have no problem with this person uploading their versions of the audio for others to check, its out there in all sorts of quality but its not theirs to charge people money for, it has never ever been done like that on here.

why did hexagon sun need to make anything up in the past? lying is a "good option"? what is forgotten about? who is the "we" you keep blabbering about? if for whatever reasons BOC would prefer anybody wouldn't listen to a release, why wouldn't they say so? why lie? why should i respect a lie? why respecting the truth isn't an option? what is the band's stance? all you ever heard about is second hand stance - and while it may be "official", "true" or "worthy" - it's not the BAND's stance in the way YOU imagine it!

so comfort is more important than truth... and as you said (correct, you said it... and that must make it true, comrade Beria) he had no reason to lie? so it's not a lie? so, let me get this straight - your limited-comfortable worldview can't accommodate any other option so it must be true? w? h? a? t?

dear, do you really think that if you repeat the same thing over and over it will become true?

this is not the first, second or third time it is mentioned: he is not asking for money in return because you can download them without giving him any money. you are either retarded or acting in bad faith (i.e. lying to yourself). otherwise you wouldn't repeat a false statement which was refuted on more than one (two, three) occasions.

try harder, troll. this is not politics we're talking about so no use raising a straw-man factory.

sorry for the coffee and mascara - i know this is serious stuff for some but i am not to be taken too seriously. if it ceases to be fun then wants the point?
Snufkin wrote: I doubt many think remastered old stuff will never emerge, but speculation and endless talk about that kind-of stuff is just a ridiculous thing to keep doing after all this time. If BoC fans can't learn to be patient... they will never "get" it...

~Snuf
i guess i don't "get" it since i thought he second half of your first sentence is what this forum is all about. fans try to interpret what they are hearing, where its coming from, and what might be next. i was trying to lighten things up and used the words "hope," "might," etc.

been listening to BOC since '98 and i have never once complained about a lack of music. i did also say "no matter how long the wait." i'm going to go ahead and call that patience. i remain optimistic because they owe me nothing ... anything new at this point is a gift.

After a certain point in any musician's career, when you have earned the respect of your fans and peers, you have earned the right to do things like compilations of your best songs. What's stopping them from slapping ten songs on a disc and putting it up on Bleep for twenty bucks?

I'm willing to throw money at my monitor, but Mike and Marcus don't want it.
absolutely - had this same discussion in my head today. not only are they in the enviable position of making a living off doing what they love, but having family, kids, mortgages, and college savings, take priority over running a tab at the pub. while it is art there is still a business element and it would be great if they had this chat: "seems the fans really want these oldies, why not put the kids through college?" yeah?

also, i was thinking about how feelings change along the continuum. 10 years ago, maybe they felt it was sophomoric, messy, etc. but over time you tend to give yourself a break. some things i hated in the past aren't even a consideration today. of course this discussion only happened in my head and its not likely going to happen (the cynics are probably right) but when they tease us with hundreds of unpublished tracks just kicking around that they "may or may not" ever release ... i keep coming back to this scene from Dumb and Dumber:

[Jim Carrey]: "What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me? One in a thousand?"

[Lauren Holly]: "Um, more like one in a million."

[Jim Carrey]: "So you're saying there's a chance!"

I don't want to be one of those dicks who perpetuates a forum argument over 4 pages, so I'll try and end this conversation with this.
untitled wrote:why did hexagon sun need to make anything up in the past? lying is a "good option"? what is forgotten about?
Perhaps it was to get people off the trail. If you don't want someone to hear something you made in the past for friends only, for whatever reason that may be, telling them that something is fake will make them probably forget about it, like it has done for the Hell Interface Whitney Houston remix for example.
I really don't know how you'd cope if you were an Aphex Twin fan.
untitled wrote:who is the "we" you keep blabbering about?
People on the forum, BoC fans in general essentially.
untitled wrote:if for whatever reasons BOC would prefer anybody wouldn't listen to a release, why wouldn't they say so? why lie? why should i respect a lie? why respecting the truth isn't an option?
I think because they reissued Twoism in 2002 and never reissued anything else pre-MHTRTC that I'd expect this to be the case. They definitely had the chance to, but never really took it. I'd take that in itself to be enough.
untitled wrote:what is the band's stance? all you ever heard about is second hand stance - and while it may be "official", "true" or "worthy" - it's not the BAND's stance in the way YOU imagine it!
I admit I don't know that, but as I say, they'd give us an opportunity to listen to it if they so desired for us to.

It just doesn't make sense, here there's nothing to really gain from MDG making it up.

Can somebody do something about this sockpuppet, friend or relative of DoP, or just some random who came here to contrive arguments, please?

All this is just more and more steps away from BoC respecting their fanbase and even considering "yeah, we'll release a cleaned up version for those people" because this sort of thing demonstrates that we don't have our shit together collectively if "untitled" is really a Boards of Canada fan. All this has done is allowed a whole bunch of stupid arguments to take the place of actual discussion, and it all comes from completely false pretenses.

With all due respect to everyone else, just STOP replying if that's possible. I can't tell you what to do but this thread just needs to die, not continue supported by arguments.

Iced Cooly: he/she doesn't give a shit about what you have to say. They don't care. It's probably an account registered with the sole intention of white knighting DoP's proclaimed tape rip. Either that or someone who's a firm believer and doesn't give a shit about what mdg has to say which pretty much negates any real discussion.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

it's my choice how i waste my energy, especially as long as i want to make you use your head more instead of less. i'm also a musician, i also released music, i also made mistakes and i am also thankful that boards of canada gifted us with their music. frankly, they didn't "have to" release ANY of their albums - don't you agree? but they did. the only way "we" can repay them (and this is in no way "necessary") is by using our heads, especially before posting on a public forum. don't you agree?

if you don't want someone to hear something you made in the past for friends only, you can say

"we made this for our friends only, we were young and dominated by our senses and feelings and it's unfortunate they got released despite our best intentions. we are truly sorry if we offended any person (artist or otherwise), it wasn't our intention and we don't have any excuse. we are human and we trust you are too. considering all this, we thank you for your support and your interest and we are grateful that there are people who call us friends (or enemies) without knowing us better."

how does that sound to you, compared to "those are FAKES... wait, they are not!"?

a more "brutal" alternative would have been

"yes, those were made by us but they are not related in any way to the intentions that led us to make the official albums. if you enjoy them, please do so - but don't forget that every time you enjoy them it's more than a special occasion. if you feel offended, we are truly sorry and we hope these tracks won't detract from any enjoyment you felt (or may feel) from our official albums."

and by the way i was an aphex twin fan before i was a BoC fan. i can say i discovered BoC by the way of RDJ :)

correct, this account was registered with the sole intention of discussing the "new" rips - but contrary to your extremely "logical" line of thought my main interest is to get hold of some unprocessed rips in order to make a professional version (only transparent noise reduction, normalization and dithering) of it. as it is, the 192kbps rip is higher quality as i can play it on a professional sound system without distorting or other issues.

unfortunately, while such a release would take d_o_p five minutes, he/she doesn't want to help me (or anybody else)... so the point is moot.
